I have the opportunity to purchase an x10, but I really loathe the timescape interface, is there a way to remove time and mediascape, as they drain the batt excessively and lag the system as well. Ideally if we could revert to a vanilla version i d be happiest, but i think a total root is still a ways off. So wondering if there was a way to remove the sony bloatware off?

Why people keep coming up with ths "remove" nonsense, I don't know... don't use Timescape, that's it.

To each his own taste but it's more than funny when people with no clue claim Mediascape is bloatware and drains battery... :D

It makes way to many 3g queries and updates, which will drain the battery, because it tries to associate the music etc with the artist...that is the nature of mediascape. Its not like room is an issue, if i can disable the service from starting without crashing the phone, then that would be optimal. I suggested remove because forcibly blocking a service usually leads to instability. Timescape is laggy, seen enough reviews, given the amount of social media i m interfaced with that consolidating a stream will have my phone battery dead in no time, and be so cluttered. Timescape and mediascape may be fine for some peoples use of the phone, not everyone likes the same thing, and not sayings it better or worse. For my needs I would like to turn it off, as I like the hardware specs of the phone, but need the battery to last

    No, it's not, you're wrong.

As I said Mediascape won't run without launching it. It might updates its DB after you put new music on your SD but it took few minutes with my 14GB mp3 files.
And no, it does not use any 3G or any other connection until you start a web search or album arts to be downloaded.

False, at least according to my experience - ATK's auto-kill works just fine.

Apparently you still haven't seen enough reviews - TS is highly customizable and nobody forces you to sync every 5 minutes.

You don't have to use it, mind you - just don't set up your system-wide FB and other accounts and it won't do anything (default is Never sync.)

No offense but you really sound like the the usual ill-informed person who simply don't want to learn his phone...

xda-developers - View Single Post - X10 Power Usage and the other 60+ pages confirming much of the same, that timescape or mediascape has a memoryleak/faulty process associated with it. Unless of course your suggesting that most of XDA are n"ill informed people who don't want to learn about their phones..."
You have one anecdotal experience vs a thread of over 60 pages documenting wide disparities with no sleep/battery issues. I have a galaxy i7500 and know full well what a pain it is to have this...i dont want to switch to a phone that has a similar issue.
For the most part it seems like something with the timescape mediascape , regardless of use is draining batteries for a lot of users. Based on how it works, some of it could be update 3g queries, or the reverside could be cpu cycles... either or, I would like to remove it, or block it entirely...for the people that have blocked it, they still seem to run into issues with it, that require reboots. I came to this forum, because their doesn't seem to be an answer in XDA.

    That's a SINGLE POST, man...

There are a LOT OF THEM over there, yes. I frequent there too though stopped posting long time ago - way too much half-illiterate clueless people are spreading BS there.

It's called empirical, pal - it's my experience.

The anecdotal is YOURS, y'know, when you link to other's post.:p

You linked a SINGLE post - where are 60 pages...?
BTW I bet that ANY 60 pages topic is majority garbage, yakyak about the same thing over and over again.

But HOW IF IT DOES NOT RUN?

You guys are HOPELESS, seriously, with all this BS...

    ...or, the Moon phase...

...or, apparently, as it seems, neither of you knows a flying **** about it...

...so revert to making up shit without any actual CLUE.

No surprise after "it's CPU... or no, it's 3D... no it's some other way - but it sure does kill the battery!" :D

Guys: how about setting up the phone properly? :p

Granted, I'm running the latest firmware but I ahven't changed anything so far. Lots of Mediscape use and no "leaking" anywhere. :D

That was a single post, you can read the link yes... Using your superior internet skills, you can move your mouse to the top right of the screen where it links to the context and parent thread of that single post. Which i m pretty sure i mentioned the 60+ pages of issues and attempts at resolving abnormal battery drain experienced by the x10 and compared to other android devices.
here is another single post from the larger subset of that thread.
xda-developers - View Single Post - X10 Power Usage this is the type of thing i m worrying about..as if all programs are shut down, the phone should be asleep in standby...
I m glad to see you have such a high opinion of yourself, and others.

you seem to have a bit of confusion as to what anecdotal evidence means, so let me google that for you.

From wiki "(2) Evidence, which may itself be true and verifiable, used to deduce a conclusion which does not follow from it, usually by generalizing from an insufficient amount of evidence. For example "my grandfather smoked like a chimney and died healthy in a car crash at the age of 99" does not disprove the proposition that "smoking markedly increases the probability of cancer and heart disease at a relatively early age". In this case, the evidence may itself be true, but does not warrant the conclusion." Anecdotal evidence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Like your experience which may be true in your case, because your x10 does not suffer from battery issues, does not warrant that no, or even a lot of x10s do not suffer from battery issues.

again this was addressed in the single post, when i mentioned the thread it was from, it was my mistake however to assume you knew how to navigate a forum.
the task restarts, back ground processes and functions associated with it, trigger its starting, programs and processes tied to the app, try to access the app while its closed and use cpu cycles because they loop continually looking for it... there are several ways and methods for it to be the result of a drain, and by the reports from a lot of users it seems sony's "additions" are more often than not the culprit when compared to other android phones and battery consumption with similar specs.

Given this is your view, if you d be kind enough to not post in this thread as it seems you do not have the answers to the questions I m asking. Further more your trollface like comments and attacks on other users you know nothing about or read, makes you look foolish.
I am here because I want to clarify if there is a definitive answer to media/timescape draining battery compared to other android devices, if that is the case, i may pass on the opportunity i have to get an x10 and wait for a galaxy S or htc triumph. That is the scope of my question...and i have no interest in discussing the integrity of other posters on other forums.

My understanding is that you can't uninstall Mediascape/Timescape. I could be wrong about this. You can, however, install a different application launcher (see the Helix thread for some examples) so that you don't have all the Mediascape/Timescape icons (and giant image from the most recent Timescape entry) all over your home screen. I don't know if this helps performance at all, or if there's some other way to get rid of all the Mediascape/Timescape junk (I wasn't able to figure that out).

I've seen a lot of complaints about Mediascape/Timescape and other software that comes with the Xperia X10. Regardless of whether it impacts performance, it would be nice if there were a way to uninstall the software that's not really essential to operate my phone, at the very least to reduce clutter on my apps screen. I dislike clutter.

I ll have to look into helix. Yeah I really wish the Root was available right now, I wouldn't hesitate at all, because at worst we could just put a vanilla version of 1.6 - 2.2 on there.
From your experience have you found helix to improve battery life?

It seems like it has improved my battery life significantly. I've only been using it for a couple days now, so it's hard to say for sure. Plus my phone is pretty new, so the battery life seems pretty unpredictable so far (apparently it keeps improving for the first few charges). I'd trust what the people in the Helix thread have been saying, it sounds pretty impressive.

You can just delete the timescape widget and set it to only update when you open it. As for mediascape just use a different apk or use a taskkiller after you do use it
