I have a non-rooted evo and for some reason it won't update to 1.47. I try checking for updates and it says that my phone is up to date. Has sprint pulled this update? Is there anything I can do to fix this?

The only reason I'm trying to do this is because my phone won't update to froyo and I was thinking this might be the problem.

What software version does it say you are using now?

And yeah, speculation is, it needs to be at 1.47 - I think.

Are you doing the HTC Software Update? I assume you have tried them all.

I have two evos, one is my wife's and it is unrooted/unmodified. It is still at the original released software version, 1.32.651.1. It will *not* 'see' the June 4 update that would take it to 1.32.651.3, and of course it will not see the 1.47.651.1 update either.

I have been trying to find the apk's for both of these updates via google searches and have had no luck on either. I called HTC about it, they said the carrier controls which phones see which updates so I need to call them. I have not called Sprint yet because I think it'll be a waste of time.

I also tried the froyo update on the 1.32.651.1 evo and it fails during the verification phase. I installed it on my other evo just fine, and it appears to patch a lot of files so it looks like it is required that the phone be at 1.47.651.1 for the froyo update to work.

I think I know one way to fix this, which is using the RUU for 1.47.651.1 which is the official installer from HTC and will wipe the phone completely and bring it up to that version, then I can install froyo. I am almost positive this will work because I used this method on my rooted evo to unroot and remove unrevoked2, but I am trying to avoid that for my wife's phone because of the factory reset.

EDIT: Important typo, the phone does not even see the June 4 update.

Wait. It has original software and it sees the day 1 / June 4 update?

Will it not accept the update?

Have you tried backing everything up and doing a hard reset?

Its running 1.32.651.1, but does have the most recent PRL. I've done a reset to factory setting, but i don't know if that is a hard reset.

I believe the update goes live on August 3rd. Meaning if you check for the update with your phone on that date it should prompt you to update. That's if you didn't update already.

I've been thinking about rooting, but i've been hesitant to do it because im afraid of bricking it. This wouldn't be that big of a problem if I knew I could get the evo replaced immediately, but at this point i'd be waiting a couple of days to get a replacement.

I'm not trying to update to foyo. I'm trying to update to 1.47, which should be able as it was released last month.

Oh, I get you now. Maybe they did pull it to prepare for Froyo. You never know.

If you read carefully, there is nothing to worry about.

I did the original unrevoked, then broke it with the update. I then did unrevoked3, and now I am running the rooted stock froyo rom.

If I started over, I would do toast, but unrovoked is nice and safe and it will get you where you want to go.

Whats some good software to back everything up? Preferably for mac. I'm going to try and hard reset the phone and see if that works.

I'm still running 1.32... and I can still receive the 1.47... update through the updater if I wanted to. Everytime I check for Froyo like a spaz it prompts me for 1.47... but I'm ignoring it. I'm hoping I can jump right to Froyo on tuesday.

Try updating your phones profile in the same menu where you get updates at, maybe it will make the phone and Sprint realize its an old version that needs updating.

I used titanium backup and also did a nandroid backup. Both require root, and both worked with unrevoked3. Unrevoked has a mac client, your backup needs no mac client, you can copy from the sd to your hard drive after you backup.

MyBackUp Pro us good for backing up things.

Do that, search for how to do a hard reset (which may be same as factory reset), back everything up, uninstall all your apps yourself, power down phone, take battery out, wait a minute, back in, and start up using the hard reset method. I am far from an expert. If that doesnt work, then I would take into Sprint.

I would just be hesitant to root. Something isn't right. Are you able to update profile?

I tried updating the profile and it says that it is updating, but then nothing happens. I don't know what the deal is. I took it to the sprint store and they couldn't figure it out and told me to wait until 2.2. I am pretty sure something is wrong with the settings and the phone isn't connecting to sprint's servers to check for software.

I am not able to update the profile. It says that it has updated and is going to apply the changes and nothing happens. I also noticed that my PRL is up to date, but it keeps on trying to update that too.

How strange. This goes without saying and I am sure you were, but you were connected to the internet before you tried to update right?

That's weird that sprint store would say that(I guess it really doesnt surprise me that much). I don't see what could possibly be different for your phone once 2.2 is avaible. It's not like your phone will magically be able to communicate again with their servers.

Do you run a task killer? I read one guy had to re-allow a couple of core processes and then he could get updates again.

I shut off the task killer and its still not working. I've tried updating over 3G, 4G, and wifi and nothing seems to work. I think it has something to do with the fact that I can't update my profile.

It seems to download the profile update, but just doesn't apply it. Pretty weird.

I never stopped any system apps... How can I check if they are running? They don't show up when I look in advanced task manager.

Yeah, no problem. I'm glad to be able to try to help out when I can (Which is not too often). :D Hopefully you can narrow things down by Tuesday, I'd feel badly if you weren't able to update for whatever reason this happens to be.

I'm not familiar with task killing apps or auto task killer, but the guy that was disabling those system apps was using Startup Cleaner 2.0.
Also, I think I remember that in Astro File Manager (on the market) it had a screen that showed what system apps/core processes are running. Astro is a really great app to have if you don't already.
