Question about Wifi Hotspots

I know that by using our phone as a Wifi Hotspot we can use its internet connection on our laptops.

But instead of using the phone's internet connection(2g/3g) can it retransmit another Wifi signal?

The reason I'm asking this is because the wifi signal strength from my router is very low in some areas of my house. So I was thinking can the phone use the wifi from my router and retransmit it so I get a better signal strength?

Is this possible?

Not possible. The Wifi antenna on your phone is receive-only. It cannot transmit it's own signal that it is receiving. If you have data turned on, then it can transmit-only the wireless data signal.

What I think Saltine is trying to say is that the phone can not be both connected to a wifi access point (router) and be an access point at the same time, which is true. That is not possible on a phone.

However, there are cheap alternatives to this. I'd recommend you check out a wifi signal repeater:
