    Hello all,

This has probably been hashed around but after searching I couldn't find any direct answers to what I would like to know. Currently- at least until July 27- I'm an AT&T customer and yes I have an iPhone, a 3G. I have experienced enough dropped calls to last a lifetime, somewhere on the order of several a week. My plan or what I would like to do is come to Verizon and get the Droid X. I love the EVO and Sprint's service is excellent where I live and work, but I know that the build quality is superior on the Motorola handsets.

My question is I have heard of a lot of folks changing their Verizon plans and removing the unlimited txt options and utilizing Google Voice. Yes, I understand you choose a Google Voice number and it becomes your main line. I just want to know from those of you that have done this, if it works pretty flawlessly? I understand that as long as the txt's go to your GV number than you aren't charged as they use data. How do they appear to you on your phone?

I'm now a freelance designer as I was laid off fromt he corporate world and I'm looking to save as much as I can as far as costs. I guess what I am trying to find out is if GV works as advertised as far as being a free way to txt? I'd like to try Verizon as their signal where I live and work is the best over Sprint and AT&T.

Thanks or all help and opinions!

Google voice has an app for android that interfaces almost identically to a normal Verizon text message interface. It is also very easy to use.

A Google voice app is something the iphone doesn't appear to ever be getting. :D

    Thanks skilaufen.

I'm just trying to cut costs and I hear that this is the way to go. I think my confusion breeds from the fact that all the info present on the Google Voice site just confuses me.

Anyone have this and has successfully been sending and receiving free txt's?

I do and have been using it like crazy. I only have the 250 text plan due to my work sending texts/pages to me through verizon but otherwise I use my GV for all my texts and I get them pretty much instantly just like my Verizon ones.

Your right about the Google site being somewhat confusing. If you don't have GV yet get it and just mess around with it. You can figure most things out by using them. I started out with one configuration and then ended up changing it around before finding the settings that worked for me perfectly (for voice calls that is). The app is easy to use (especially for texts) and you can send texts from your phone or type them out on your computer and send them from there. Make sure you get the GV number when you set your account up (if you don't have it yet). Let me know if you have any other questions I can answer for you. :)

Dude- you rock and big thanks. I'm going to get it and play around with it tomorrow. I think it's one of those things where I have to read it 3 times to understand it. But that's ok, as it will help me save a few bucks. I hate paying for texts, it's a pet peeve. AT&T is just as bad as Verizon as far as charges are concerned. Thanks again for the advice!

Have fun and if you have any questions just PM me and I will do my best to answer them. I love my GV and now that everyone can get one you don't have to mess with the invites and such. :)
