Is it safe to assume that if my N1 is not carrier locked upon purchase that I do not have to do the OEM unlock prior to running superboot to root? That seems to make sense to me, but I can't seem to find it in writing anywhere.

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

It's not safe to assume that.

Carrier unlocked is completely different to bootloader unlocked.

OEM unlock will unlock the bootloader which grants root access. Very different from a SIM unlock. Take NOTE though, there is no way to reverse this and technically it voids your warranty. There have been reports of people getting their rooted N1s repaired by HTC but it's completely at their discretion and they can refuse warranty service.

Thanks a bunch guys. I think I understand it now. I was obviously thinking about the SIM and not the BL.

    Much appreciated.
