After months of development, QuickDesk BETA 0.4 is now in the Android Market!

QuickDesk is a dashboard application that provides quick access to widgets/shortcuts without leaving the current running application.

Imagine turning your Wi-Fi on without leaving your current running application or being able to pause your music without leaving a game while you are playing it.

However, all these are just the basics! QuickDesk can do more for you! For example, Task Switching, Task Management and Application Management just to name a few.

Without further ado, let’s see what is new in QuickDesk BETA 0.4!

What’s New in QuickDesk BETA 0.4?
    • A numerous of bugs fixed!
    • A revamped user interface!
    • A more detailed Quick Start for first timers!
    • Notification Counter, a service which retrieves unread mails/messages from Gmail, SMS and Missed Calls on QuickDesk screen! *NEW*
    • Application Badge, an icon which attaches itself to 1 or more background running applications on QuickDesk screen! *NEW*
    • QuickPanel, a sliding drawer which consists of your 30 most recent used applications with counters and badges included! *NEW*
    • Edit Mode, a new way of organizing your applications on QuickDesk screen! *NEW*
    • Swap Home Key Action, a function to launch QuickDesk through tapping your Home key once only! *NEW*

PS: Notification Counter currently only supports ADWNotifier and Touiteur.

awesome app! this has the potential to fix multitasking on android! but I have some feedback:

1- sometimes it doesn't interpret what apps are active vs. inactive. for example, i'm listening to music with 3 (cubed), scrobbling it with last.fm, and neither apps have the badge icon used to signify an actively running app. granted, these apps are running in the background, but they are still using the processor, and should be identified as a running app. (btw, I've found that systempanel also incorrectly identifies active/inactive apps, so maybe there's some problem within android itself that needs to be looked into?)

2- if i have quickdesk open, then hit menu, then back to make the menu go away, it exits out of quickdesk completely and puts me on the previous app I was using. this happens with menu > back as well as menu > menu_item > back. i want to have to press back multiple times to get to my app, in case I need to do something in quickdesk before going back to the app.

3- needs to have landscape orientation. i have a dell streak and almost never use my phone in portrait position.

4- next to each app, a measurement of how much of the processor each app is using. not a make-or-break feature, but it would be pretty effin sweet to have this.

5- give us an option to increase/decrease the area of the screen that uses quickpanel. to me this app seems like it's primarily for multitasking purposes and the 'quickpanel' should be the whole screen, and should not be sharing with shortcuts and widgets that you can find on the device home screen.

but otherwise awesome concept and i hope this can actually make 'real' multitasking on android possible!

Landscape view will be available in QuickDesk Pro which will be released in a few weeks time. Meanwhile, I will also let the developer, Faruq knows about other points you have mentioned :)
