Root Re-rooting my Nexus 6...

Hi all,

I've recently just been issued a new Nexus 6 from my insurance company following a smashed screen. Upon receipt of the new device, it looks and feels brand new. However, when I went to install an OTA update, upon reboot, the device booted into 'TeamWin'. Now, this surely isn't right, and leads me to believe that the device is actually a refurbished one. It also has an unremovable app called SuperSU.

I'd quite like to return this device back to the factory state it should be - as if it was straight from Google. I don't really have the time to be without it by sending it back to my insurance company for another one, so the quickest and easiest method is appreciated.

Would any of you be able to help me out with some simple instructions? This kind of thing is pretty alien to me.

Many, many thanks in advance. :)

P.S. If it helps, I'm running on a Mac and the Nexus 6 is running Android 5.1.1.

Hi @rylehu!

It definitely sounds like you got a refurbished device. I'm a bit baffled that they would "refurbish" it without reflashing the factory images in the process, but that's probably going to be what you want to do.

You can download the correct image directly from Google here:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?hl=en

And we've got a pretty decent how-to here:
[Guide]How to flash a Nexus Factory Image manually. - Android Forums

There is also a toolkit that you can use to automatically flash in one action, but I don't have any real experience with that:

Good luck, and let us know if you run into any issues! :)

Welcome to our AndroidForums, rylehu :).

Looks like you'll want to re-flash the factory image for your device...here's a very good tutorial for doing this on various Nexus devices:

http://androidforums.com/threads/guide-how-to-flash-a-nexus-factory-image-manually.706533/

Note you will lose anything you've got installed on that, so backup any files prior to doing this.

** dang ** :p, just realized / saw codesplice already provided you the same info :).

I don't know if Wug's tool (from the wugfresh.com link above) will work on a Mac, though...

Cheers and best of luck!

:)
