just got a lovely ticket in the mail and its labeled "nassau county red light division" which is from the next county over. it was from the toys for tots cruise we had on the 5th. apparently there was a red light camera, which my escort 9500ix radar detector didnt pick up on and i got snapped. the only thing is theres no sign that says no turn on reds. there is no arrows in the lights for us but the lane isnt marked as a turning lane though.. i cant even fight it according to the letter. the only way i can get out of it is if i can prove that i wasnt driving. its a $50 ticket but no points but sucks because there goes my clean license. its considered a non moving violation though. heres the bad boy for you to see. im betting that a lot of people from the cruise got tickets as well, since i was in the middle of the line and tons of people had to have gone through the light..

also have a video of it. lol

How can they not allow you to fight it if there's not a "No turn on red" sign? Is the law in your state to just assume you can't turn on red if there's no sign explicitly barring it? This traffic entrapment stuff is getting ridiculous. At least there's no points on your license, though, so technically it's still clean.

In all counties in NY state, except with NYC you can make a right on a red UNLESS there is a sign saying you cant. there is no sign anywhere around this intersection saying that or a turning arrow.

yes i didnt stop at all but im not sure if i even did would the camera still have nabbed me or what?

i know all the kids in the video, and there definitely was more people going through it than what was shown. you can see at the end of the video, traffic going north to south (i was going east to west) starts moving their turning lanes which means the traffic going straight hadnt even started. our light had to be red for an extended period of time after my video ended. i was caught going through it like 15 seconds after it turned red.

if they dont get tickets too im gonna be pissed..

its only 50 bucks so im just gonna suck it up. guess they are getting me back from all the times ive gotten off for no front plate, or being too low or speeding tickets i didnt get lol

Dude, it looks like you rolled the light. In Florida if you don't come to a complete stop, you get a ticket. And that complete stop must occur behind the white line, not the crosswalk.

Same in Illinois. Hate to sound like 70's extremists, but we need to rise up against this crap and oppression, or else there will be cameras everywhere, and we will get tickets for jaywalking in the mail!

It is bull and I agree with you, but hopefully it won't happen again.

I agree as citizens we should fight this. But not many care to do so it seems. Many are like "hey it's making traffic safer, so why would I be against it?"

Seems to me that constitutionally the burden of proof is the counties or? Inocent until proven guilty? This looks like an infringment of your basic rights as a US citizen. Also there must be a way to apeal it? That's what's understood by an apeal process. I would look into it further.

On the tear off portion it says you either pay or request a hearing. Payment is an admission of guilt. This is pretty standard. In the video you ran the light. In you original post you made a statement about right on red... in this instance, your failure to stop and yeild the right of way is the infractionthat you are being fined for.

Always appeal :p. It's your right.

Looks like you are stuck with it. You did run the red light, you didn't roll that one, you flat out ran it. The only thing that might save you, was a police officer leading this procession? If he set the lead then they can't make the ticket stick. Otherwise, you are right, everyone who ran that light will be getting a ticket. (If not, you may have a case for being singled out)

I for one am glad for the cameras, you don't know how many times I have almost been hit (one did nail me, at 40mph) by idiots running red lights. It is a big problem here, and hopefully the cameras will help.

My dad got a ticket the other day for stopping in a box junction (You probably don't have them in the USA?), He had to stop as the car stalled then couldn't move because traffic was coming. They hit him for

Red light cameras in Nassau County are so tricky. I agree with red lights cameras but there are two problems with them. All over Nassau County, red lights have sensors no just the cameras. During the day before 6 pm, the green light stay on for long periods and during the night those lights change fast. For example, in Oyster Bay Rd(bethpage) and Roosevelt Field Mall(garden city). There is no way to predict when the light is going to change. What we need are counters before the light is going to change. This is so tricky, I got no tickets yet. I am studying these lights and I will find a faulty in these devices. We need more people to step up and write letters to this guy Suozzi to put also counters so that we can know when the lights are gonna change.
