I saw the question buried in another thread, but I can't find the thread.

The new 0.3 baseband interests me, even though I had a bad previous experience. My phone is working well, I plan to do a nandroid and all that, but if I flash the baseband and it is crappy for me, and I nandroid back - is the original baseband placed back with the nandroid image?

I am not sure how the baseband is interrelated.
If not with the nandroid, where can I get the original baseband and how would I reflash the original without ROM Manager without adb?

Sorry it's lengthy, but this should help others as well.

TWO things I read about this 0.3 - people lose 3G frequently = the fix supposedly is airplane mode on and off. Also, when doing the *228 option 1 to program, you must do it again with option 2 - this should improve 3G and bars.

    Thanks for helping!

edit: sorry, can mod move this to the ROOT subforum, I think it's more appropriate.

I'm pretty sure (not positive) that the baseband is independent of ROMs/Nandroids. The latter do not modify the radio, just the system. This is why wherever you see the baseband update, it always says to do only once. So, I don't think you can revert once you update. FWIW, I haven't noticed any issues with call quality of 3G coverage since updating. (nor have I done the two "fixes")

a nandroid wont get you the old baseband back. Flashing a 2.0.1 sbf file will though

+1 on this. I was thinking of this last night. I would like to go back to the old base band imo this new one sucks. I have more dropped calls and 3g 1x switching.

unless someone makes an update.zip for it the only way to get back to the old baseband is the 2.0.1 sbf with rsd lite. Then just dont load any roms that have the baseband update built in and you will be fine.

Check the link in my OP - how I read it is that you toggle airplane on and off - I can't see how this would be permanent though, prolly have to keep doing it.

If someone offered an update.zip with the original I would be game. I love updates, but don't feel like messing with it too much if there is no improvement.

Can anybody give me non adb instructions on how to do this?
I just flashed the "latest" last night and conveniently some people are having minor issues hearing me. I didn't have issues with the original.

I don't mind flashing back and forth to test it out, provided it's safe to do this.

    http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/47349-now-you-can-live-without-fear-bricking.html

That thread has instructions on how to sbf back to 2.0.1 which will downgrade your baseband.

You could also try entering the program menu by dialing ##program
    the password is 000000
then go to 04 Vocode and pick EVRC-B That could fix your sound quality issues.

Yes I too would love to downgrade the band.
Keep this alive so a good hearted generous person with the skills can hook us up with a updatezip. .LOL. .....seriously though.

I am not quite understanding these instructions - could you elaborate? The new baseband is nice in that I have full bars and 3G in my house when previously I had 2-3 bars at 1x, but people tell me it sounds like I am fading away when on my BT (which is what I always use) - but before the update no issues.

I would like to try the above before reflashing if you could help out.

From the dial pad enter ##program (7764726)
A menu should pop up (not sure if the menu pops up before it asks for the pass code or not) anyway there should be an option in the menu for Vocode (I belive it is number 4) press that and you can select the Vocode setting, you want to select EVRC-B. Then just finish and you should be good.

When you are prompted for a pass code you just need to enter 000000.

OK - did the programming. I guess it will prove or disprove itself throughout the day.
    Thanks!

Now what does this really do?

I have seen a marginal improvement with the EVRC-B setting. One other setting (don't know if it has been mentioned in this thread and I am too lazy right now to look) is in the settings => call settings menu. Sometimes it helps to turn "Voice Privacy" off.

I considered that option. It is not even two weeks old. Plus I didn't tell people about the baseband update and suddenly they reported issues the day I did it. I used the bluetooth for a week before the baseband and nary a complaint. Oh well.
I'm gonna try to go back to the 2.01 and we shall see.
I will report back my findings.
