repeated message on htc hero

    I keep on getting this message:

    "There is a delay in setting up your voice mail. Your message will be sent as soon as this step is completed."

    I'm pretty sure I completed all the steps to setting up my voicemail (password/greeting).

    I was searching on the internet and there was a suggestion of taking out the battery while the phone is on.

    Will this hurt my htc hero in anyway?

    I figure if I do that and it does not work, I will talk to sprint customer service. However, will they know if I am rooted and running Fresh 1.1 if I contact them? Maybe they will try to access my phone in some way.

    Sorry for the noob ques. but i couldn't find an answer using the search function.
