[Resolved. Was old Play Store version] Location services bug?Support

Is anyone else having a problem with the weather app not showing your correct current location? Instead of giving the placename, it just says 'current location'. I've checked all the settings and set my home location and the default to be shown as 'current location' but no banana! I've seen quite a few posts of people reporting the same issue without any workaround. I'm assuming it's just a bug with Sense 5 perhaps? I'm just hoping my handset isn't faulty as this is already a replacement for the first one I had - that had a problem with awful 'interference' when making/receiving calls etc..! Any ideas/tips re the weather app gratefully received, thanks.

    Best

Restart the phone with fast boot option unticked.

Have the exact same problem as Toria. I am in Dublin, Ireland and have this issue in numerous locations even on WiFi.

Restarting with fast boot unchecked doesn't make any difference. This issue seems to have been around for some time but it's very disappointing to find it still there on a brand new device.

disabling fastboot has been helpful with this issue on previous htc models so it was a reasonable solution to check.

the main issue that i have seen across previous phone models revolves around specific geographical areas and how the weather info is polled to the device. these are isolated cases for sure and not a widespread issue.

to those who are having this issue, have you opened a ticket with HTC?

has nothing to do with the phone in my opinion since there are many people who have these models and do not have the issue.

I had that problem with the HTC 1X but so far, after a week with the One, it's been pretty accurate.

My experience is the exact opposite. My One X never had this issue but constantly happening with my One.

I have raised a ticket with HTC, pointing out that I did not have this problem with the One X on the same network.

I got a response from HTC to resolve the locations issue with the weather app.

I am just wondering if the tech savvy members of this forum know what this set of instructions is doing? Thanks in advance.

You're clearing the cache at root level. This is something easily done by rooted phones because of the access available, and is usually the FIRST troubleshooting step to many issues. You can compare it to powering off your computer, waiting a few seconds and turning back on versus a straight reboot.

HTC had you do that because they believed something in the cache was hosing the location services up, and I would wager that you might've had some GPS issues as well at the time (slow, etc).

    So, did it work?

Sadly no. If anything it made things slightly worse.

Now my location will appear as either Dublin or Ireland. Prior to this it would show my location, when at home, at much more local level.

GPS seems fine on other apps. I installed Google Sky Maps yesterday and on starting the app it immediately zoned in on on the usual local area I live in.

Have gone back to HTC and await there response.

Thanks for the explanation by the way.

Sorry it didn't work... If you want to try something else, while you're waiting on the next response, turn OFF ALL location services, then try clearing the cache as described earlier. After the phone boots back up and everything seems normal, THEN turn ON location service and see what happens... Good luck and keep us posted.

Doubt clearing cache again would help. That's the Android operating system cache.

HTC Weather doesn't maintain its own cache so there's not a separate one to clear.

The usual suspect here is Accuweather, I've seen this complaint on every HTC by someone at some time.

Whenever it's hit me, I've popped over to their website to find their database screwed up again.

They'll hop hemispheres with coordinates, or countries with similar city names, the works.

One of the lower level HTC guys actually managed to confirm the source of the problem and that was the last we heard of that a few years ago.

I used to post "solutions" on this until I formed the personal opinion that mostly all we've ever done is screw around until Accuweather responded properly and then concluded that screwing around fixed something.

Best bet, if they still allow it, is to add your city manually and try to use that for a few days or a week or so, see if it improves.

I went to 3D Clock and Weather by Droid27 on my phone last year. I still get the HTC Clock but I get Google weather instead. That's far more reliable. But this isn't an option for anyone who wants to rock stock Sense.

Mine wasn't working at first either. I enabled all location services, checked update my location in the weather app, rebooted and now it's working.

OK I have exchanged a series of e-mails with HTC about this over the last week or so.

They put me through a whole series of attempted fixes , none of which solved the problem.

I see from other posts that there is a software update, 1.29.401.12, coming out which includes location service updates, so hopefully the will do the job

I had this issue on my Old HoX, and on my SG3. I assume if I get a one I will also have the same issue after seeing who does the weather app. The issue is accuweather, that's who does the weather app on the all these phones. The accuweather app looks at who your ISP provider on wifiand where the signal comes from or what tower your getting cell from and in many cases this can be in a nearby city. The app has never picked up my city correctly unless I'm in a big city on any phone unless I set it manually. I tried other weather apps and almost all of them pick up my city correctly as they use GPS and not my ISP or cell tower city to determine my location.

Well I got the 1.29.401.12software update today.

Guess what? My location issue is sorted!

I am now showing the local area as opposed to the city. :)

I'm not sure if I read somewhere that the One had an issue with its Location Services. Everything is enabled but my phone says "My Location" on the lock screen. Was there an issue that's being addressed that I'm just spacing on or is there a fix for it?

If you have the latest version of the GOOGLE PLAY STORE app on your phone(Version 4.1.10),the issue should have been resolved.

There was some kind of bug w/this & GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES (current version varies with device).

Google Services Bug Causing Location Issues For HTC Owners, Google Working On A Fix

Perhaps uninstall the updates to either/or of these apps & re-install if you're still having location services issues.Sometimes this will clear things up w/a misbehaving application.

I'd start w/the GOOGLE PLAY STORE first,as you be able to update to the latest version immediately.

As for the GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES,I've read that if you uninstall the updates to this app,you may have to wait awhile for the latest version available for your phone to be pushed through.

So,before attempting this, you might want to GOOGLE search or check w/GOOGLE's help section/forum for info,as there is a discussion open on this very topic (& apparently a fix as well).

Thanks Kolio, will check it out.

I was, in fact, on the old version of Play Store. Doing the manual update to 4.1.10 seems to have fixed it. Thanks again!

Why have my location services quit working? Everything is turned on. It's been like this for a while, maybe 3 weeks now. I thought I may get an update soon but apparently not. Any fix? I liked the Google cards when traveling.

Did you install an app that could have caused this problem? And is your GPS icon indicating that its working when turned on? Have you turned on 3G and GPS at the same time to see if that will make your problem go away?
