    Hi,

I just bought this phone on Black Friday as an upgrade from the Optimus V. Overall, it's much better but the battery life isn't as good as I expected. It seems like when I'm away from home (and no longer on my wifi connection), the battery starts to drain like 2-3x as fast.

I have a screenshot but I'm new and can't post images. Sorry if this breaks the rules, it's:

imgur dot com slash xGIvb dot png

The first 2/3rds of the image was when I was home, the next 1/3rd was when I was at work and off the wifi.

The battery usage breakdowns are as follows:

    Screen: 27%
    Android OS: 15%
    Device idle: 12%
    Cell standby: 11%
    Android system: 7%
    Apps I've been using: ~10%

I have Juice Defender installed and running, I have all the power saving features in settings enabled, I constantly "swipe off" apps I'm not using, I have the screen brightness on low (about 15%) but not auto because it's way too dark on auto, I have GPS & Bluetooth off....

Any other ideas? Is it the constant on/off of the mobile signal while I'm at work that's killing it? If so, how can I fix that?

    Thanks in advance.

There are a couple of places where your phone will be on the hunt for wi-fi to save you data charges. Tweak this in two places:

    1. Settings, Wireless and Network, Wi-Fi, Advanced: don't check "notify me when there's a network"
    2. Under Settings, Wireless and Network -> More Settings, Mobile Networks: Don't check "Connections optimizer"

Somebody posted that unchecking #2 really helped with battery life, but I can't find the post to link it for you.
    Hope this helps!

The second suggestion you mentioned really helps my battery life.

I also turn the power saving option to "on", and that helps also.

Today I've been on battery for 9 hours 30 minutes and I'm still at 76% battery. I think that's pretty OK.

If you've not got a good 3G signal it will drain the battery more as it hunts for the 3G network.

looking at your battery chart it seems as though there wasn't really a problem with your 3G connectivity at the point when your battery started to drop off precipitously.

I'd speculate that some app was being greedy and using up your CPU and hence power. However you say that nothing shows up in your battery usage statistics, so I'm stumped.

I don't use any special software to conserve the battery on my phone, and I've manually set the brightness to a level I'm comfortable with.

Sorry I can't shed any light on your problem :(

I tried both of these suggestions and I believe they helped.

Yesterday I went in to work with about a 75% charge on my phone and finished the day with about a 45% charge. Compared to Monday, that's about a 30% difference!

    Thanks!

I did step 1 and step 2 and the battery percentage is still going down every few minute of use. I have a task killer and stopped a lot of the apps too... I'm getting really frustrated.

Your phone battery draining *with use* is a different problem from the phone draining even when mostly idle, as the OP experienced.

Look at system settings --> battery and see if there is a clue there as to what app it could be.

Don't go too crazy with the task-killing -- your task killer is likely making repeated, battery-eating system calls. And make sure that you aren't terminating things that will just automatically restart. Repeated stops and starts also eat battery. If you really don't want a background system app, root the phone and freeze or remove it, don't fight it with a task killer.
