I checked it out, you are right, isn't there. guide says this though, "1.go to the htc website:HTCdev - Unlock Bootloader
2.the very far right there should be a drop down menu. scroll all the way down to the bottom until you see "All Other Supported Models". do not select the evo 4g(korean). that is an entirely different phone.
3.just follow the steps. and use the files that you downloaded earlier when asked.
4.you will then get an email and follow directions according to the email. "

So I guess you are to choose the "All Other Supported Models" option.

edit: Ha, my turn to get ninja'd :) 4 freakin times, no less!

HAHAHAHA....thanks fellas!!! And I did read thru the Captain's guide and realized there would be no way in hell for that to work on an Evo 3D.....

It would have taken me 2 days to get an answer on the 3vo forums...that is one of the things I really miss is the action on this forum...it is so highly supported by the Dev community. Anyway, an excellent device nonetheless!

i updated my second post with a guide on how to use android flasher as it is mentioned in the captain's guide. it is pretty simple to use and will help get a recovery among other things flashed very easily.

edit:i moved the android flasher info to within the op in the HTCdev method.

i am having a issue with step 8 i was wondering if you or ssomone could help it keeps telling me permission denied. but i have super user i downloaded root checker it says i am rooted i dont get it.

i got it nevermind thanks anyway though. you should put this in the directions now though.

I had to toggle signature verification after running superuser zip while at the cmd adb shell part. so instead of just typing in su to get permission select toggle signatue verification in recovery

I'm confused. You shouldn't be in recovery when you're running that command? The procedures don't say anything about rebooting into recovery.

Signature verification has to do with flashing signed zip files in recovery. Are you saying the superuser zip wouldn't flash successfully unless you toggled signature verification? That would make sense, but signature verification shouldn't prevent the "su" command from working when the phone is booted up.

Yeah, but the only way I can get the $ to turn to # when I do the adb shell part is to have it in recovery and do that toggle signature while I am at the command prompt. The only reason i went into recovery was reflash the Su zip file and then I seen the toggle signature and tried that and it gave me permission but then as soon as I went to go back it still said i had s on but the root identifier app says I am rooted. Idk I gotta go home and mess with it some more

After I do the toggle signature in recovery it just automatically gives me the permission I dont even have type su in. And even after I got the permission I put those other two files on my sd card and typed in the commands you said to type in, and it said it couldnt find them or somethin idk like i said it was late or early lol and I had to be into work this mornin so I had to give up but when i get back home I will look at it again and get back to you.

After you flash the superuser zip in recovery, you're supposed to reboot so that the su app loads and the binary is available in Android. At that point, you're rooted. Unless you didn't reboot and run the commands while your device was running, there's no reason it shouldn't have worked. I think you may have missed a step somewhere.

Also you would still be S-ON at that point. Rooting is not the same as NAND unlocked (S-OFF). If all you wanted was root access, the HTC unlock process gives you the ability to get that just by flashing a custom recovery.

Cool thanks ill try again when i get home, I could have sworn I rebooted but maybe i didnt I was half asleep lol

    stvmtz27 Active Member

that did work thanks. But now its still tellin me that there is no such file or directory when i type in cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
And also when i unzipp that flash_image file and try to put it on my phone i had to try to put it on my phone twice it kept saying corrupt file or bad zip file or somethin like that lol but the third time i tried it just put it on my phone without it saying that.

did you place the file on the root of the sd card? that means not in any folders, just on the card itself?
  16. stvmtz27

    stvmtz27 Active Member

Yeah, and im suppose to put the extracted file there correct
  17. ocnbrze

    ocnbrze DON'T PANIC!!!!!!!!! Moderator

yes you are supposed to extract them and put them on the card. try and copy and paste the command from the guide and into the command window. use the code version in the guide. sometimes a missing space might affect how the computer reads the command.
