Hmmmm....I would say that its not finding it on your sd card for some reason.
Just verifying here, it is extracted from zip right?
    Umm..you are typing correctly.
Let me think about this some more, cuz I'm baffled. I read thru the Tacoroot method and it is similar to Capt's method.
Just 1 question, and I'm just wondering...you are doing this to be totally s-off?:)
Because if your phone is unlocked, s-on from the HTCdev method, you still can flash roms, kernels etc....

also you do not need to use winrar to extract the flash image file. the native windows extraction is just fine. and just to be double sure you are using the android folder and putting the flash image file there, correct?

OK. So while I was running through it from Step 7 again to get pictures, NOW I'm getting rm failed for /data/data/recovery/log, No such file or directory after Step 9 [adb shell /data/local/tacoroot.sh --setup], but my EVO 4G still rebooted into the red exclamation.

    Yes, and yes.

I know...I read through all of them, and felt that TacoRoot was to my liking, and wanted a challenge. LOL. I guess if ALL ELSE, I'll go through Version 1 of this guide, but I want to see if I can really do the TacoRoot method.

Thanks! I really appreciate the help and input!

OK. So I'm trying it again from Step 6 now, and when I'm in Recovery with Vol Up + Vol Down + Pwr, I get the message E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command, but the Recovery Menu still pops up.

    Android system recovery <3e>

Use the volume key to highlight:
    click power key to select.

    Reboot system now
    Apply update from sdcard
    Wipe data/factory reset
    Wipe cache partition

ok was this done while you were in the bootloader with the red exclamation point? it does look like taco root worked since in adb you got the "#" in the command window.

also have you tried this on a different card?

No, but I can try again from Step 6, and do the "undo" part after Step 9.

No, this is my only micro sdhc card (the one that came with the phone) :(

    ok lets try this then:
1.copy the contents of your card
2.on your phone go into settings>sd card>>unmount sd card>erase sd card>remount sd card
3.transfer back you cards content back to the card.
    4.try taco root again.

Yeah...I still get the same error on Step 12 :(

Maybe I should chalk this up as my phone is an anomaly? LOL.

...or maybe I'll try on a different computer.

well the are other methods you can try as well. maybe unlocking the phone and trying the captain's method might be the way to go.
