There are still Rezound billboards all over Chicago. I pass a giant one every night on the way home from work.

To get slightly closer to the topic at hand, I ate an ice cream sandwich tonight while using my Rezound. I'm sure that will accelerate the update's arrival.

Not quite correct. When HTC first released info about ICS updates they said the Rezound would be "after March".

That's kind of point I was making. Saying after March means anytime in 2012, except fpr the first 3 months. That's about as loose of a date as you can get (except for just saying 2012). The guy I was replying to was saying Verizon & HTC put out dates & never met them, I was just saying that they never really gave any date in this case.

Actually, the Verizon press release, when the Rezound was announced, said, "An upgrade to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) will be available in early 2012."

I'm starting to lose hope on the ICS arrival. It'll happen at some point but I'm tired of checking.

I'll probably wait anyhow once it hits just to make sure its rootable since I really hate living without my root apps.

So by verizon's reasoning early could mean anything up to the middle of the year. Plus, that statement was made before ICS was even released to them. One of the head guys for android already said that the transition to ICS is much more involved than the one to GB. They were probably using the GB transition as a model for long it'd take for ICS.

Like I said before, I doubt we'll see ICS before the Inc4G LTE launches (supposedly by the end of May) so it shouldn't be too much longer. As long as they get ICS out by the end of June, in Verizon's eyes, they're still on schedule. Don't get me wrong, I want ICS on my phone also, but it seems like people go overboard everytime an OS update comes out, like their phone will be completely different. Usually it's pretty much the same as before, there always seems to be a feeling of letdown after the update finally arrives.

I also think most people don't firmly grasp what a complete OS revision entails as far as making it work for each phone. I know xda gets updates out quicker than OEMs, but they invariably come with bugs that, if the OEM's version came out like that, they'd be villified for quality control. Add Verizon's layer of quality control on top of it, and it's a long wait. We've already seen 3 leaks come out, and each time a new one appears, figure adding 2 weeks to a month before we could see an OTA update. Assuming we don't see another leak, we shouldn't be too far off.

Not to mention Verizon has to push much more than a rom update. Imagine if Verizon pushed an update that resulted in all of it's Rezounders ending up in a factory default state. No apps installed, maybe some data files left behind.

The rom is only 1/2 the battle. The automated install is what needs to go off without a hitch.

On May 10th I wrote Big Red:
Id like to know when ICS is coming out for my Rezound., Obviously it didnt release yesterday even thought it seemed like it was coming. Yes I read the forums, but I see no info regarding the truth. I suffered through the Thunderbolt, well 3 of them. I have some issues with my Rezound and am hoping this update will correct them. A statement from yall would go a long way for customer satisfaction.

    Here's the reply:
Hello and good afternoon. My name is Javier and I would be happy to provide some helpful information about when the software update to the new Ice Cream Sandwich software.

I can certainly understand your concerns surrounding the next software release for the/your HTC Rezound.

Currently, software updates are released directly from the manufacturers themselves.

In order to avoid expectations that cannot be met, we are often times not notified about a software update until it is close to being released.

If we had the software release date information you are requesting, we would gladly provide it to you. I am terribly we don’t know more about it, at this current time.

Also for future reference, please remember to verify the billing password in case we need to review the account. Thank you.

David, we know the update will be available soon and we thank you for your patience. We thank you for being the best part of Verizon Wireless, and we appreciate your loyalty!

Let's take a second to review the lies in this response:
This is more likely a canned opening than a heartfelt response from someone more likely to be named Shripadma than Javier.

It is common knowledge that Verizon reviews and approves all updates on VZW phones. It would be foolish to think they had absolutely no idea that an update was imminent in order to prepare for rollouts.

Ok, I was bored that day, lol. I just wanted to see if they'd respond and what they'd say. I never thought they'd say anything useful and didn't. They have us all by the short hairs and always will. Curse you Red.

I can understand the concerns with Verizon also. I personally wouldn't want to release something and have my customer service lines blow up because it isn't right. And, I really don't want the update if it isn't right. I really have no issues with GB, I just like new things to play with. Back when I had my first droid I got a update and was thrilled for a week or two. Then it was the same hum drum. I had my Rezound replaced under warranty for the internal speaker, but I had the other one rooted and was running a version of ICS on it and I liked it ok. It was something new to play with, but like before, after a few weeks I was bored with it and it was the same phone. Do I want the update, Yes. Will it kill me to wait till it's right for release, No. I figure it will come when it comes. Until then I will find something else to occupy my time for a couple of weeks at a time like always. Just me .02.

Let's try to be more optimistic. I say we start checking for it on July 31.

I'd like to confirm what ludist said earlier with an email from "Carol" at HTC.

Thank you for contacting HTC Technical Support regarding when your Rezound will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich.

D, here is where we stand at this time. The time frame for ICS for you phone will be June/July.
As for why the Amaze got ICS before the rezound, due to localization, testing, and partner approvals, updates do not roll out to all devices at the same time. For devices on a wide variety of carriers and in many countries, rollouts can take up to 45 days from the initial update to reach everyone.

You will have the new HTC Sense 3.5 or later version when you upgrade your Rezound to Ice Cream Sandwich.

I, also, want to thank you for the feedback. To ensure that your voice is heard, I am forwarding your suggestions to our Research and Development department for review. HTC takes your suggestions seriously. This is the premise on which we design new phones and updates.

I hope that the above information is helpful, D. I would like to thank you for your continued patronage. Have a nice day.

Let me know if I have successfully answered your question, please click here to complete this.

    end quote.

some blablabla, but june/july from an HTC rep is concrete for me. this coincides with droiddog's article about "end of august" for all HTC handsets with proper specs.

the "suggestions" she mentions in email refer to something i had mentioned about putting 2 speakers in all their upcoming phones so we can all receive stereo sound in our phones. i frequently suggest things that i'd like to see in upcoming HTC phones.

maybe someone could start a new thread about what we'd like to see in upcoming HTC phones. i'd like to see:

-stereo w/some kind of decent bass
    -imageSense across the board
-volume rocker to change song like in many custom roms
-dedicated camera button across the board (cuz, i mean...really!)

please add/amend to this list. HTC listens at the very least, even if hey don't implement.

This shit is ridiculous. We've been waiting to have a working 4g hotspot since January... Verizon sold us all on the ICS release. They're nothing but liers. And now that Google bought Motorola, I doubt HTC will be given the attention they've gotten so far through their partnership. Which sucks because I really hate Motorola and I really like HTC. I'm just frustrated right now with the phone world...
