Root Root 6.04.605.07

I have never rooted a phone, but nows the time. HTC promised ice cream sandwich, and all us HTC Incredible 2 owners are getting screwed.

I've researched a few things on the net and there are some very daunting procedures that bring me back a few builds before attempting to root. I'm confused if any of these instructions work for 6.04.605.07 710RD. It seems like all of the instructions for rooting stopped getting updated about a year ago.

If I am successful at rooting, will I be able to stop Verizon from forcing any updates on me? What's the best way to get ICS on my phone after I root.

It seems like there would be a way that I could flash the original unmolested operating systems like formatting your hard drive and re-installing windows and then turning off the auto updates.

Yes, noob noob noob. Big time. Sorry.

Can someone shoot me some easy instructions for this?

In the linked thread,There are 2 methods described:
1) taco root
2) htcdev unlock

Both include a downgrade. On the newest firmware, the temp root exploit in #1 may not still work. If it doesn't,do #2

Hope that helps :)

I'm on the same firmware version and can't get any of the processes online to work... Not even HTCDev method works...

I'm unlocked. Got superuser installed. Can't get misc_version to change. Here's a section from my CMD:

adb shell /data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 2.18.605.3

C:\sdk-tools>adb shell /data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 2.18.605.3
--set_version set. VERSION will be changed to: 2.18.605.3
Patching and backing up misc partition...
Error opening input file.

Any idea what is causing the error?

HTC bootloader to unlock- shows ***unlocked*** on bootloader
flashboot to install clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.0

Got install bad error when I tried to install superuser.zip and superuser 313

After looking at my phone info again I realize I was using the wrong process so I switched to tacoroot but it says permission denied every time after the adb shell /data/local/tacoroot.sh --root

Thanks, when I get to the adb shell it returns a $ instead of #. I'm pretty sure whatever is behind that is my problem. I just don't remember how to get past that or rooting is getting more complicated. I should have never installed the last OTA update!!

I've tried fastboot and recovery, in recovery I get the message
e: Can't open /sdcard/superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip (bad) Installation aborted

is there another version I should be using?

you may just have a bad download. you are trying to flash the superuser in recovery,as you would a rom, correct?

you might try superSU,theres a link in the htcdev unlock thread,in the "download these files" section: http://androidforums.com/incredible-2-all-things-root/617779-guide-unlock-htcdev.html#post4958403
