Root Root 6.04.605.07

I have never rooted a phone, but nows the time. HTC promised ice cream sandwich, and all us HTC Incredible 2 owners are getting screwed.

I've researched a few things on the net and there are some very daunting procedures that bring me back a few builds before attempting to root. I'm confused if any of these instructions work for 6.04.605.07 710RD. It seems like all of the instructions for rooting stopped getting updated about a year ago.

If I am successful at rooting, will I be able to stop Verizon from forcing any updates on me? What's the best way to get ICS on my phone after I root.

It seems like there would be a way that I could flash the original unmolested operating systems like formatting your hard drive and re-installing windows and then turning off the auto updates.

I'm not sure if the exploit in the first post will work,but the htcdev method in the second root will work to gain root and downgrade so you can get s off.

I tried reading the linked post from Scotty, but in one place is says that I should follow the taco root and the other says that I should follow down grade

In the linked thread,There are 2 methods described:
1) taco root
2) htcdev unlock

Both include a downgrade. On the newest firmware,the temp root exploit in #1 may not still work. If it doesn't,do #2

I'm on the same firmware version and can't get any of the processes online to work... Not even HTCDev method works...

I'm unlocked. Got superuser installed. Can't get misc_version to change. Here's a section from my CMD:

No need. I figured out my issue. Had been ignoring the prompt on my computer telling me the USB had malfunctioned... Didn't have the correct HTC Drivers... All is good. Thanks for your time! hah

Finally downgraded... Now to S-OFF!

Got install bad error when I tried to install superuser.zip and superuser 313

After looking at my phone info again I realize I was using the wrong process so I switched to tacoroot but it says permission denied every time after the adb shell /data/local/tacoroot.sh --root

taco root will not work on your build. since youre allready unlocked,install recovery and superuser and follow the directions in post 2 of this thread: http://androidforums.com/incredible...y-downgrade-firmware-build-6-01-605-05-a.html

Thanks, when I get to the adb shell it returns a $ instead of #. I'm pretty sure whatever is behind that is my problem. I just don't remember how to get past that or rooting is getting more complicated. I should have never installed the last OTA update!!

oh and I haven't seen anything come up on my phone about superuser.

I hate when people only answer half my questions when I'm trying to help them. I wanted to make sure I answered both.

you may just have a bad download. you are trying to flash the superuser in recovery,as you would a rom,correct?

It was my superuser version. I had tried a few diffierent downloads of the 3.1.3 and I could have sworn I had tried the 3.07.
