Could someone post like a top-10 list or something running off the benefits of root access? I think a lot of people might think they want root access but then aren't sure exactly what they could do with it, besides auto-rotate and customizing the splash screen.

I guess what I am asking is what is your favorite thing about having root on your G1?

You can remove preloaded apps, giving you space to install others.

    I hate the bloat.

I've seen two themes that are available for a rooted g1. You can move the cache for the browser, market and youtube to the sd card. for me there is just not enough reason to do it yet.

OK, removing preloaded apps and moving the cache are two pretty good ones. What happens to a rooted phone when the cupcake update comes out? Will it get updated too, or do you have to wait for a cracked version of the update and update manually?

You'll have to sign it (or JesesFreke will) and then install it. That's not to say that cupcake will still allow for root or anything like that. It's a good question; however, there just isn't enough information to know for sure.
