Root Rooted Droid X - Will I get Froyo Update

I rooted my Android Motorola Droid X. I've heard mixed reviews about whether or not I can upgrade when the update comes out to Froyo or if I have to set my phone back to root. I used the easy root tool to root my phone but if I need to put it back is there an easy unroot program? Or do I not need to worry about the rooting.

EDIT: Never mind me! You indicated that you rooted your phone and for some odd reason I thought you were talking about upgrading to the leaked Froyo.

Easiest way to unroot is this GUI DroidX Root Program - Windows Only - Droid X Rooting - AllDroid Public Board - GUI DroidX Root Program - Windows Only - Droid X Rooting - AllDroid Public Board - AllDroid.org > Home copy and paste it.

I don't think there is a clear answer whether the 'root' will effect getting the OTA or not but I 'think' we can unroot using any of the simple above mentioned apps if that is the case? Anyone confirm that sentiment?

Anyway, what's the point of rooting now if you plan on getting the OTA update? With all probability, the OTA update will make you lose root anyway. If you want to be permanently rooted, then you might as well just go all the way by rooting now, denying the OTA update, and using Bootstrap to install new ROMS when they come out.

If getting the OTA update is more important to you than being rooted, then you might as well leave things alone and wait for the update. If we weren't so close to the OTA update, then it would make sense to root now. But nobody knows for sure what's going to happen to rooters when the OTA update comes out.

So my suggestion is to either wait it out or totally jump in. Personally, I totally jumped in and do NOT want the official OTA update. I will wait for custom ROMs and install them myself. For example, mrbirdman is supposedly releasing a version very soon:

"FlyX - Deodexed, optimized, bloat removed, froyo update.zip coming soon to a DX near you...."

And then, he plans to release a vanilla Froyo version about a week later:

"the full vanilla rom will be much nicer than this...but its gonna be a week or so before thats ready."

So you have to decide what's more important to you: having an "official" OTA update or keeping root and having totally control over your phone!

Thanks for all the info guys, I think I am just gonna wait for the update. Pretty sure that there will be a way to root that before too long, I am very hesitant to mess with my phone for feat that I will damage something I can't fix. I am pretty new to this kind of stuff and don't really know what I am doing just yet. Thanks again!

[APP] universalandroot (1-Click Root) has an option to "un-root" so it is not a problem. If you can control when and if you get the update then you control the process.

You will be able to update to 2.2 but you will lose root upon updating. unless you wait for the devs to patch the ota to remain rooted, but I don't think its a issue seeing how that the Droid 2 is already rooted at 2.2

if we upgrade ourselves to the leaked 2.2 froyo, we should be able to install a custom rom to get the official 2.2?

If your using the leaked 2.2, I dont think you will get or can update with the ota, you would have to flash back with rsd to 2.1, if your rooted with the leaked 2.2, you can flash the custom roms
