I am thinking this was just the disable security feature which I forgot to disable as I didn't really want or care to turn S-OFF.

But anyways I installed the HBOOT drivers and it worked just like the instructions said.

Then when I ran the reflash.exe for 3.21, it did a bunch of stuff and I put it in HBOOT mode a few times, and then it rebooted a few times and finally I saw the ClockworkMod green recovery menu (I think that is what it is) and then a bunch of white text all over the page, basically saying applying some zip and then something failed because unsupported radio version.

    unrEVOked said "Done" though.

After a minute, I rebooted, and my phone works just like it used to and I'm not sure what its state is. If I reboot with vol down and power pressed I get the same ordinary boot loader I always get. If I select recovery and press power, I get ClockworkMod. I can run a nandroid backup so that works.

How do I apply the 2.2 rooted stock ROM though? Is that just "apply update.zip" or did I also need to download some zip from somewhere and put it on my SD card? I just want the stock ROM for now. I just want to proof of concept with WiFi tether working as I used unrEVOked 1.0 back in the day and my phone has been 2.1 factory since I didn't want to root any further till now.

    Update: I found the s-off.log:

So I guess the s-off failed, but what about the rooted 2.2 ROM, did that not get applied? Do I need to copy my own from somewhere or will clockwork have it already? I don't see it anywhere on the SD card and when I tried "apply from sd card" it asked me to doubly confirm after 10 lines of "no" and then it said it couldn't find the update.zip so I'm guessing it's not there. Should I just grab the one novox recommends (netarchy) and apply that update.zip and then reboot mount the sd card copy over the radio zips and do those one at a time each time booting back up to mount the sd card as a disk to copy it over and rename it update.zip?

See I thought unrEVOked was supposed to do this for me.

I'm afraid to run it a second time, what do you think?

I want the 2.2 rooted ROM but I don't care to turn S-OFF, it is ok if it stays ON.

Jeez, so I ran unrEVOked 3.21 now about 6 times total, each with different degrees of success.

But this last time it appears to all have worked 100% w/out a single hitch. One thing I did differently was switching which USB ports I used on my PC and also how long I spent scrolling down to HBOOT before pressing POWER. *shrug*

I'm not sure if it is rooted from unrEVOked 3 or not because I already had the original 1.0 unrEVOked superuser app on there, and I can still run WiFi tether so I'm guessing I'm still rooted at least.

HOWEVER, even after all of this, it is still only running 2.1-update1!! Why isn't it running a rooted 2.2 build??

What am I missing here?? How do I get it running the rooted 2.2 build? Also, will I need to flash radios?

I also just installed Clockwork ROM Manager, and it acted like Clockwork Mod Recovery was NOT installed even though I could reboot into Recovery and it said Clockwork Recovery 2.5.0.1. I "flashed recovery" from ROM Manager and it took just a second and was done, then it acted like it was properly installed. I looked at the ROM lists but I'm afraid. I don't know anything about flashing radios, and I didn't see any basic 2.2 stock ROMs so I'm holding off for now...

For anyone interested, I finally got updated to 2.2 rooted FroYo. I basically installed ROM Manager, reflashed Clockwork just in case, then downloaded and applied the OMJ Stock 2.2 ROM with netarchy kernel (FPS fix). Simple as pie. I didn't even lose any settings! :]

FYI, I received the same error of an unsupported radio version even though my radio version was listed on the unrevoked wiki as supported. After much searching and experimentation, determined the latest unrevoked pulled in an earlier, outdated unrevoked_forever.zip. Simply had to download the latest unrevoked forever separately and use ROM Manager (or similar) to install that ZIP. Then S_ON was changed to S_OFF so I could work further like remove the preinstalled system apps and remove the annoying boot-up sounds and screens.
