I have rooted my HTC Desire using the Revoked method and would like to know what to do next to install a rom.

Is it advisable to do a backup, and if so how do I accomplish this (step by step guide would be awesome)?

Could someone also recommend a good ROM?

    Thanks.

I would do research on your phone such as if it is CDMA or GSM. CDMA is more limited on ROM's but I went with the cyanogen rom. If you have US Cellular your phone is CDMA. Also, doing a backup is a very good idea. All you need to do is power off your phone, then hold the volume down button plus the power button. Navigate your way to Recovery Mode using volume up and volume down and selecting using the power button. Once in the black screen with green text you can use the scroll and the button, go to Backup/Recover and press Backup.

Oh ok, I'm from UK so I think it is GSM.

And is there actually any advantage to using a ROM over the stock HTC Sence?

Some custom roms have sense. Others so not. Both are usually faster than stock

Or if you are really lazy (like me :D) you can install an app called Quick Boot
which lets you reboot straight into Recovery (or into the Bootloader, or just perform a standard reboot).

Thanks, I think I have it sorted now.

Are there actually any step-by-step tutorials on this? Or do I just rely to heavily on tutorials?

It really is as simple as that. In recovery, browse to install zip from sd card using track ball and locate the zip. That's it.

    1) a Rom that supports a custom kernel or a custom kernel designed for your Rom.

    2) the undervolting is standard with said kernel but to overclock you need an app called set cpu

    Look here for kernels:
