I am still debating on rooting or not, first off will this work if i use a macbook, also ik it voids your warranty and im just 13 years old so i don't have the money to buy a new phone if something wrong happens, what do you guys think i should do? Also what do i need to install before i root (like back up things..?) and what should i install afterwards like what roms and stuff. Also if i root my device and want to go back so i unroot my phone, does my warrenty come back? Please help me, thanks.

Save an image of your phone (rom) pre-root, before you bring it in for service, reload your saved image. No one's the wiser

Im not sure what the benefits of root are for you... for me when I had it was just for the tethering and the screen capture, I didn't use anything else that needed root.

Yes you can go back if you root.
Its called sbf'ing. It allows you to *format* your phone and install the operating system brand new as though nothing was done to the phone. No one will ever know you did anything.

As far as backing up stuff, I don't know I don't use back ups :/
There's a ton of posts you can read up on to get educated on rooting

Your first step should be to take some time to educate yourself on the processes of rooting/Roming/theming etc. Being new to this community of droid x rooting, etc. You can make many mistakes if you're unsure what to do.

There are many good tutorials at the top of this forum. Many of them with vids to guide you. Once you get an understanding of the process come back and ask question. There are many knowledgable people here that can guide you when you are ready. Two things we cant emphasize enough is one, learn to sbf before you do anything to your phone. And the second is ALWAYS have a fully charged battery before you begin flashing anything.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

In addition to what cougar said, PLEASE feel free to ask questions as you go. We love to help newbs. We were newbs once, too! (The DX was the phone I learned rooting on and I had to ask a LOT of questions... still do, sometimes! :))
