Hi guys, I can't seem to find a reliable method of rooting the HTC Evo 4G running on android version 2.3.5 and software version 4.67.651.3. Can anyone give me a way to get this phone rooted? Preferably some kind of one click rooting method... Thanks!

like you, i had accepted the latest OTA update so i was in the same boat. i followed the dummies guide, and while it's not one click, it's not too bad either. i have been flashing ROMs every day for the past week now. :p

Hey guys. First time poster. I have owned my Evo for 1 1/2 years and always wanted to root it but never go around to messing with it. Until now that is! ;) I am eligible for a free upgrade so I figure if I brick it, it's not the end of the world. BTW, I have HBoot 2.18 as I took the OTA update a couple months ago so I'm following the HTCDev instructions. I figured this would be the easiest and I could always go back and have S-off at a later date when I get more comfortable doing this kinda stuff.

Anyway I think I am having problems with HTCdev's website. I am at the step where I enter my identifier token. So I copy and past the large token block from my cmd window into the webpage and hit "Submit" and then I'm taken to a blank webpage. Nothing happens after this. There is absolutely nothing on this web page. So I hit back and re-paste my token back into the text field and hit submit again and the same result happens.

I'm just wondering if there is something wrong with their web generator. All steps prior to this have gone according to plan.

    Thoughts?

Edit: Well I got disgusted and disconnected my phone from the computer about 5 minutes ago ready to give up. Then I decided I'd hit submit one more time and low and behold the next page loads but I get a "Unlocking Bootloader Failed" message. It could be because I disconnected my phone prior to hitting submit as I was only really wanting to see if I could get to the next web page. I'll try it again this afternoon after work when I have more time. I think they must have had a problem with the web generator and that is why I couldn't move past this.

I am not up on this method myself but when you get ready to try again, if you are still having problems, someone who is up on it will probably be around to help!

Woops! I didn't mean to post my troubles in this thread!

I'm going to try it again tonight and see if I can get through it. I'll make a new thread if I have issues.

hi new to this forum, followed the instructions
"[Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide"
but I need help...stuck on step 3 loading the su file, do not understand or know how to load the file on the SD card. I guess what I am looking for is how to load the su, to load to use unrevoked to get you fully rooted::confused::(

btw AF dowloader does not work for me.

    Welcome to the forums!!!!!!
make sure your PC is connected and in recovery select USB-Ms toggle. Transfer the file over to the card. In the main menu of recovery select flashzip from scard and flash the su file.

I have successfully unlocked Bootloader following the instructions on HTCDev bootloader unlocker then followed Captain Thowback (How to achieve S-OFF after unlocking 2.18 HBOOT) but I am stuck and now do not know what the heck I am doing:confused::confused::confused::confused:

not sure what you mean. just extract the files and move them to the sd card. basically power the phone on and set the phone as disk drive and transfer the files over to the card.

to perform step 4 of the CPT method...

    -download the superuser file
-hook phone into computer, and place the file on your SD card (not in any folders)
    -reboot into recovery
-select flash file from zip-->select zip file
-scroll down to superuser and hit power button (prob twice to confirm)

I was unsure how to perform this step as well when I rooted...didnt quite get what 'flashing' was..you are almost there!
