Yeah, read it elsewhere but it got me wondering.... Will Motorola take just as long if not longer to release GB than it did for Froyo?

Because I don't see a reason it should take so long and I work in the software/firmware side of things here, in silicon valley.

Guess what I'm saying is I wouldn't be surprised if it takes forever to ever get to us, if not ever at all because of their marketing ideas...

I heard a rumor that Google is trying to push GB out and not have it be masked by 3rd parties... dunno if there is any truth to it. I hope it is true though.

Makes you wonder if all those Samsung fanboys will get a lucky surprise of GB as their update or if they'll have to wait half a year after getting FroYo in December. Ah, hell, who am I kidding?

I think we all are really hoping Blur is dropped from the project all together. It makes the phone slower, and adds unwanted time to development. So really the time depends a lot on their plans to continue/discontinue blur.

They need to just understand Blur is an Epic Failure.

I am sure the DX will get GB and can really care less when it comes... The X rocks as is for now and when GB comes, it comes....

If not, no worries for me as I am sure by then the DX 2 will be out and sporting it soon enough...

knowing how motorola operates. i find it skeptical that they would include GB updates for DX owners. We shall see. Bulk of current android owners are still on D1.

Why wouldn't they? The Droid has gotten the 2.2 update, I see no reason why the X who has already gotten the 2.2 update wouldn't get the next update.

It's all marketing my friend.... one of the same reasons for a locked bootloader.... so that in-turn, if you want to have the latest and greatest features available, you HAVE TO buy a new phone :p

Yeah, but you buy phones based on previous experience with companies. Motorola has pretty good support for its older phones, such as what's been seen with something as old as the D1 getting FroYo, even before newer phones by other companies. I won't refute that it's not practical for a company to indirectly force you into buying a recent product of theirs, but I wouldn't assume Motorola would do that.

Like I said with Froyo. I will believe it when I see it. Otherwise I could care less about might, maybe, in 2011, in a few months, in a month, in a few weeks, yada yada.

    If/when it's here, it's here.

This is where you are wrong. If you understand ANYTHING about American Capitalism in the 21st Century you know For Profit Companies are ALL ABOUT forcing you to buy the newer product! Why did the iphone take so long to get a nice camera or higher resolution screen or more ram or more memory? Why do companies give us 512mb ram instead of 1gb of ram? Why do they include crappy 2gb storage (SF) and then make you buy a 32gb memory card? (i know it includes a 16 gb card).

Anywho, EVERY company is about giving you the NEXT INCREMENTAL step of hardware that makes it PRECISELY that amount better that makes you feel like you are missing out. You proceed to plop down the hundreds of dollars of cash on it all the while something WAY MORE technologically advanced is sitting in a warehouse somewhere or is fully capable of being produced right now.

If you don't understand that concept and think that Motorola or other companies want to just spend their time and money supporting older products, you need to stop swallowing those crazy pills by the bucketfull! :D (no offense, all in good fun :))

Please, MODERATORS ban anyone that starts these threads about future software updates! This is ubsurd. These threads are going to start popping up like crazy again, and its all speculation. Can we please make a sub forum for this gingerbread software speculation stuff. Otherwise it clutters up the main forum and draws everyone and their mother in here to keep the BS going. MAN IM SO SICK OF THIS!

How about a function to IGNORE threads.

I know I can just skip them, but that does get old. Fast.
