Running Out of Memory... Please Help!Support

ive looked at some other memory threads and none have really helped me.... here's the deal, ive recently cleared all my cache, cookies and everything you could imagine... hooked my phone up to my computer and went through and literally deleted EVERYTHING that was unnecessary... ive deleted 90% of my text messages and uninstalled almost all of my apps... ive stored whatever apps i could to my SD card... Facebook had to be deleted because i couldnt store it to my SD card and it was almost 20MB... i literally have 1 or 2 of my own personal apps, Words With Friends and Twitter, that are stored on my phone because they wont go to the SD card... after everything i did, i checked my phones free space and it's only 50MB with 127.93MB being used... WTF!?!?!

what is POSSIBLY taking up that much space on my phone?!? i have nothing... ive deleted most of my pics ive taken, i literally have more factory pre-installed apps than i do my own (which is pathetic). ive had my phone tell me so many times that im running out of space and couldnt send texts and all that.. so i could go and delete damn near every text i have and it would STILL give me that problem.....

can someone PLEASE help me?!? i want to enjoy my phone without having to delete everything and STILL have no space... i wish i could just put everything on my SD card, but then again, i wouldnt know where to start because i have NO idea what could possibly be taking up 127MB of space on my phone....

please help me out guys, i REALLY appreciate it!

The play store is a sizable update. You can go into the preinstalled apps and uninstall updates and then make sure the check for auto update is removed.

The Optimus V has a huge problem with internal memory, it just has hardly any. I struggled with space as you do and finally gave in an rooted and removed the preinstalled apps I never used. Then I found out about deleting tombstones which freed up a good bit of space. But it was not enough so I started using the aforementioned Link2SD. That made a huge change for me.

Shortly after I started using Link2SD I installed a custom rom which was even better.

so can someone please tell me about this "Links2SD" and what exactly i should do? like, what is "tombstones" and things like that?

please help... and im a newbie when it comes to smart phones, will i have a hard time rooting the phone by myself?

I wrote a link2sd tutorial, the link to the thread is in my signature (but only in the first post of mine in this thread).

Rooting is not hard, just make sure you know which version device you have, which screen and use the correct method for that.

I'm not sure exactly what causes tombstones, but they're safe to delete.

Are you using the stock browser? That could be doing it. I found the browser that comes with the phone eats up internal memory until it won't even function. Try installing opera mini on your sd card as your default browser, and clear data and cache and force close on that stock browser.

When an app crashes, it leave a file that is named a tombstone and kept on tour phone. Afaik, there is no way (or need) to retrieve the files, and the fisrt time I deleted them (Root Explorer, data, tombstones) I think I got back 20 mg. No lie. I had a game that crashed daily at least twice, and it was eating the whole phone.

Sorry for resurrecting a long dead thread, but I'd rather not open another one with a same (or similar) subject.

It is my understanding that on a stock ROM, if one updates ANY of stock apps (Gmail, Maps, Google Play, YouTube etc), they aren't actually updated in place; instead, a new copy is installed in that user space, taking up massive amount of space for user apps. Essentially, there are two separate partitions, one with the original stock apps (including VM crapware), the other for user apps, and they can't be resized. Even if one could delete all the unnecessary crapware (Poynt, SCVNGR, Twdroyd and the rest), this wouldn't free up any usable space for user apps.

    Is my understanding correct?

Before i rooted i installed titanium backup to delete all the "crapware " which i did. If I remember correctly i gained about 10mb.
I was shocked, which led me to root and install a custom rom. I don't have links 2sd because I don't use alot of apps. I have about 30 apps and 120Mb's of internal space. I could get more with this rom but i don't need to.

Browser uses alot of MB, everytime i exit the browser I go into settings clear cache, clear history, clear cookies, clear form data.
You wouldn't believe how much the browser uses!

Wow, thanks. I didn't know that! So 'Uninstall updates' should free up memory when the memory low warning message pops up? That explains why I only just got those messages recently when I did a bunch of app updates, including GMail and some of the other stock apps...

If it is an app you use I suggest updating it. If it is not an app you use freeze/uninstall/don't update.

I 2nd MacFett's advice...root and install Links2sd...I was ecstatic after I did. His tutorial worked great for me and I'm a techno dummy. I now have tons and tons of apps and lots of internal storage left.

It is now in the all things root sticky. As much as I wanted to keep the link in my signature I ran out of room for current stuff. I think andyopie is rewriting it soon.
