S2 help! Phone switching off.Support

I'm Kate and I've recently purchased (on monday!) my very first android phone, that phone being the Samsung Galaxy S2. I had no problems with the phone up until yesterday where it just randomly switched off. I thought it was the battery and put a spare one in however, it did exactly the same thing a few hours later in work. I took the battery out and placed it back in and it was fine.

I did some research and found that it is a common fault with the phone (apparently!) and was wondering how can I stop it from doing this so frequently? It did it again about 15 minutes ago but from what I've read, if I push the on/off button for 10 seconds it comes back on which it did. I'm not panicking as much now that I know I can restart my phone however, I don't want to be doing it several times a day.

So (!), how do I stop it from switching off? I won't have a problem with it doing it once or twice a week, but I'll start getting annoyed at 2 or 3 times a day.

I'm very new to this so if someone can give me a simple step by step guide as to prevent this from happening I would greatly appreciate it! My boyfriend wants me to get it sorted through the warranty but I'm determined to get it sorted out!

    Thank you!

    Kate :)

    Hi there Kate :)

I can't help much as I don't have the same device, but I have been looking through some threads on here and xda to see if I can offer any advice. I've seen a few mentions of the battery contacts to the phone needing a clean/rub with a cloth. As your device is new this doesn't seem the likely cause, but you never know :)

A user over at xda has this to say -
which you could try and see if it makes a difference :)

I'll keep looking for you and let you know if I find any more info for you! In the meantime, which version of the Galaxy S2 do you have (international i9100 or is it an American one?)

    Thank you for your reply!

I've checked the battery and the contact point, there was a slight gap but I've wedged it. Also, done a factory reset and will see what happens.

It started playing up when I put a case on it (it was quite tight) so I'm not sure if that had something to do with it?

I have an international one (I'm in the UK too, South Wales to be exact!).

Ok great :) A factory reset is always a good thing if there is a persistent problem, it seems it mostly fixes what's wrong :D Hopefully the things you've done will stop it from happening again, but let us know how you get on tonight/tomorrow and if the problem carries on then we can find/try other fixes to get it in full working order again :)

I want to throw this phone out of the window! After a factory reset, it switched itself off last night!

I've been researching and I've seen that Android version 4.0.4 has been a bit of a problem with many other people who have S2 phones. I was wondering if it would be worth me going back to 4.0.3? That seems to have been the trick? Or would this void my warranty?

I'm going to move this over to the Galaxy S2 forum, so that you can get some advice from people with the same phone. I believe you can flash another version of the stock firmware without voiding your warranty, but I think it's better to hear that confirmed from someone who knows for sure :)

Hope it all gets sorted! :)

I exactly have the same problem!..

    It's really annoying!..

    I've tierd with:

    1. Factory reset (Didn't helpt)

    2. Got it to the store there I bought it (By warranty so they could fix it) (didn't helpt)
They just upgraded Android I have 4.0.4 but it didn't neither like said..

    3. I have just tired with some apps.. (Didn't helpt), testing again..

    4. Changed the SIM-CARD..

    And nothing didn't helpt..

Now I will check that thing with the battery.. I haven't tired it yet..

    Some more problems:

It just dies some times like thread starter said..
And I have to take out the battery and then in again
    then it starts..

And it also happned when I talkt phone so the person I talkt with did
ended the the call before me so, the phone turned of to sleep (I thought)
But it died.. That was just that time I saw it die, the other times I haven't see it..

I really hope there are any solution for this sucky problem!..

    Or the S2 sucks ? :( .

Sorry to hear about this Kate. The original release of the phone (Gingerbread 2.3.3) worked fine and that's what got it the good name it has, but every update for it has brought problems (I didn't update). Not your fault it came pre-updated. Jelly Bean should be available for it soon, hope it gets rid the problems.

Hi Gearu! Thank you for replying! In the end, I had to resort to getting my phone sent off to be repaired and I'm still waiting for it but by the looks of things, it isn't the phone but the software so that may need to be changed. My boyfriend also has a Galaxy S2 and it has started doing exactly the same thing that my phone had been doing.

Would it be worth me changing my software (once I get my phone back) to the original gingerbread software? If it is, then I'm willing to risk the warranty. I do really like this phone, just a shame that this problem has affected so many people.

Yes I really hope also that the problem/s get away with a new Android or downgrade to the other one...

But are you sure that it's the Androids problem that mess the phone up ?.

    I really hope that !..

    Hi all,

Just to let you know I have had identical issues. Just to say, you don't really need to take the battery on, just hold down the on button for ten seconds and it will turn on.

I am on to my second in two months, and it is a software problem. My phone has been to Vodafone repair and Samsung.

Basically, nothing will solve the issue. The issue is the software, and apparently Samsung is working to resolve it.

This is a great phone other than this issue. Such a shame :(
