S2 reverts to screen lock on engaged toneSupport

My S2 reverts to the Screen Lock screen when the number I am calling is engaged. This is extremely annoying as it means re-keying the PIN every time I wish to re-dial the number.

Is there any way of preventing this?

    Software version is 4.0.4

Many thanks in anticipation of your help.

Sounds like an issue with your proximity sensor, you could try turning it off to see if that helps

Thank you for your quick response. Deselecting the proximity sensor does indeed solve the problem with engaged tones. However it also means that the LCD remains lit during normal 'phone conversations.

Given that the proximity sensor works exactly as it should during normal 'phone conversations, I can see no obvious reason - other than a software glitch - why the 'phone should revert to the lock screen when the proximity sensor is selected and the number being called turns out to be engaged.

If it is a glitch, hopefully it will be updated in a future software update.

To chesk if its a hardware issue follow this guide

Mobile Phone Tips and Tricks: How to access the secret test menu on a Samsung Galaxy S2

if your still under warranty you can get it checked out.

If you have a screen protector on that is not correctly in place that can also cause issues

Many thanks for your further guidance which I have followed.

The outcome is that the hardware (in this case the proximity detector) appears to be working normally.

A number of colleagues have also noted the same problems with "engaged" calls on their S2's.

As things stand the evidence would seem to point towards some sort of software glitch rather than a hardware fault.

(Should also mention that none of the 'phones tested were fitted with a screen protector)

Depending on your location/carrier you may have the option of upgrading to a stock JellyBean release
