    Hi All.

I've got a Samsung galaxy s4. However my volume button is broken and I'm going to get the phone replaced.

What's the best way/software for mac to back up everything on my current phone and restore it all back onto my new phone. I've heard kies doesn't do this.

I was hoping something like apple where you plug it into iTunes, do a backup and it can restore all the data apps etc back onto the phone. Is there anything like that for android that will work with my mac.

    Any advice would be great.

Kies works for Mac, but you have to get both Kies for Mac and Android File Transfer from Google. However, Kies as a whole is still a crapshoot, working when it wants to regardless of your OS.

Depending on how much customizing you've done, the phone itself has all the answers you need.
    - Enable Google Apps and Data backup. It will restore them once you login to your new phone, as long as you log in during the Setup Wizard.
    - Make sure all your contacts are Google Contacts
    - Create a Samsung Account and adjust the settings so it will backup your S-Apps data, SMS/MMS, and Call Log for you.
    - Do the DropBox setup and complete the steps for 50GB. Backup/Copy all your photos and music there.
    - If you've downloaded any files with your browser, you will find them in Download folders on your internal or external SD card. Copy them to DropBox as well.

Aside from having to redownload apps and possibly some app data loss, the phone can do everything Kies can do.

    I would go with Helium

It stores App Data, so most of your log ins, game scores etc, can be restored.
It's free, and allow cloud of Sdcard storage. Which you could always copy to your computer.
Of course, for SMS, MMS, enable Samsung sync. It does great job restoring everything. For contacts I would make sure the google sync is ON. No better backup than that.

After you get your device back, in case if comes stock, you will be asked to download all your previous apps. Google remember everything you have downloaded. Once done with that, restore the Helium back up.

It's a free and easy to use app. Comes with special small app for mac and PC, to enable the backup of system files without root. The Premium version, comes with few other back up options. I have been using it to restore my S2 to S3, then S3 to S4 and Note 2, even tablets. Works like charm.
