it's not wireless, but at least we don't have to pay for PDANet or anything like that if we want to tether via USB:

Tethered Mode allows your computer to obtain an
external data connection by using the device

Usb tethering is included but the wireless hotspot is $30 monthly.
Also check out "PDANet" in the Market.

Well, seeing as though that's in the actual user guide, I think it's safe to assume that Sprint (who released it) and Samsung (who created it) have allowed it to be as there are instructions on how to use it.

Downloaded fine for me. Wow, 264 pages long.

speaking from experience (multiple sprint device owner), don't count on it being available on the device itself just because it is in the manual.

edit: i'd loved to be proved wrong, though.

    What about this option?

EasyTether shares your Android smartphone connection with your PC. This app allows you to tether your Android to a desktop or a notebook computer. EasyTether uses exactly the same data plan that is used for the on-phone Internet access like in the built-in browser or e-mail app or youtube application. No additional tethering fees.
    Features

    • does not require root access
    • supports Windows 7/Vista/XP (32-bit and 64-bit) and Ubuntu 10.4
    • UDP support for games, for L2TP VPN (not PPTP!) and for some IM apps
    • tether PS3, XBox 360 or Wii via Windows Internet Connection Sharing feature
    • Mac OS X support will follow later
    • free lifetime upgrades for the full version
    • USB support
    • compatible with HTC Sync
    • Bluetooth DUN will be added later
    • much cheaper than PDANet
    • implemented as a normal NAT application with full TCP and UDP support
Download EasyTether Lite app from Android Market
Open this link from your Google Android device
Alternatively, you can capture the following QR code using your Android device.

fyi, just cracked opened the user manual that came with the phone itself, and there is nothing about tethering or hotspot. this is not high priority for me right now, so i'm not going to try it out on the phone just yet. just so you know.

I was told by Sprint when the Evo came out that the hotspot can be started and stopped whenever you want - for example, if you are out of town for 3 days and want to use it for laptops while travelling you would only pay for those 3 days, so the cost is prorated. I think it is a fabulous thing to have - I wouldn't want to pay it all the time, but if you want it occasionally it isn't bad.

Is it just me getting a 404 error, or is the link in the OP actually dead?

So, where can we find the manual, then? I've searched around and haven't found it.
