Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the power of advertisingGeneral

I want to start off by saying that I've never actually considered purchasing a Samsung Android device until this year. Prior to the popularity of the Galaxy S 2, I've always felt that Samsung fell short when it came to support (from the manufacturer) and reliability.

The SGS 2 changed things around dramatically. On top of that, I feel like Samsung made an extra effort to promote their top Android devices more. Obviously, the campaigns worked as Samsung has picked up from where they left off last year.

That said, I wanted to start a thread regarding any advertising that starts to leak about this phone.

This was the start of it all:

    Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Commercial | Unboxing | Keynote | Release Date | Review 2012 - YouTube

Here's an article I found that apparently has Samsung signing a product placement deal with the "X Factor," just in time for the Note 2's pending release after the 10/24 launch event in NY:

Yup! It's a combination of advertising and informational video. Very good way to generate interest, prior to the official US releases.

There's only one (1) thing I think they could've done differently, for "dramatic" effect. On the portion of the video where it's showing off the hover/air view capabilities with the S-Pen, they should've faded the background music out and just concentrate on the audio of the videos being previewed using the hover function. Then, after that portion of the trailer is over, fade the music back in.

I liked seeing the S-Pen to email feature. I've heard about it but never seen it applied directly. As in writing the text out then it converting straight into email form. I send some long as hell texts sometimes so that will be a nice feature, which I assume would apply to emails as well. Love it.

I'm hoping it's applicable for browsing and any othe application that requires text input. As much as i've gotten used to swype and on screen typing, I'd love to be able to just write down words on the screen and have it input into the area that the cursor is active on.

I'm very curious as to how accurate it is, but it's a feature that really needs to be highlighted by Samsung. I just showed a new iphone5 owner a good friend this text to email/application etc feature, now he loves his phone but was very impressed with the ability to convert handwritten text to emails. Will just have to see how smooth it is in real application.

I seriously recommend going into best buy to test it out on the note 10.1. They have them on display with the spen. What it does on the note 10.1 should give u an idea for the note 2

Someone commented on that video that the tab/multi-window feature was exclusive to the Korean version.

Someone please tell me that it isn't true... :(

ETA: I've watched a few videos uploaded in the past couple of days from UK users and none of them mentioned the multi-view function.
Come to think about it...I wonder do they even know about it. It appears that you have to touch and hold the menu key to get that side tab to come up.

As long as it's, there I'll be happy no matter how it has to be activated to use. If not It'll be really disappointing.

Same here. I might just get my sister's friend in Korea to get it for me.
I'm starting to see the great thing about having just one standard like the iPhone does

I saw that article too, but I'm not in the US so I'm getting the international version when it ships.I just don't understand why they have to take out certain features at all. They're making life harder for themselves and annoying possible customers. Not to mention watching videos and expecting one thing then getting another.

For international folks, have there been instances where Europe has received a different version than the home country manufacturer?

I have no idea. I'm in Asia.

I just might. I might have my Korean friend get it for me when he goes home.

If I were there, that's what I'd do. I have many family members in the Philippines that do that.

The only reason I resist the urge to go the international route is not wanting another bill. Too many lines on my Sprint acct that I cant drop just yet without a huge etf.

Well, for anybody on a domestic US carrier, I wouldn't go that route unless it's sure to take advantage of both 3g and 4g.

That's what I did but I didn't know about all the different features to try out. There were other people waiting to play too. I acted like it was mine and off limits. LOL!!! :)

As excited as you've been about the international version I'm surprised you're now going to wait on reviews.

I know, but I want to make sure as I'm going to be using it for a long time.

Last year I recall seeing a TON of huge ads throughout our Metro system here in DC for the Note. Put a smile on my face each time (and also made me shake my fist at Verizon! ;))
