Saw this coming, the real question is, when will they release an update fixing all the bugs that are currently on the phone?

They better not mess around like Motorola did with the Cliq and keep pushing that date back.

This phone is worlds apart from the cliq. I think Motorola was telling all us cliq owners that because they didn't wanna admit how much of a valour blur was. This is samsungs baby and I think we're all gonna get taken care of especially how their exploiting the iphone4

i don't see it taking any longer than september to get 2.2. the galaxy s is samsungs bread and butter, they will take care of this product, much better than any other phone they released. with all the time, money and effort they put into the galaxy s lineup, they cannot afford to not support it. i heard rumors about it being released in august here in the states, wouldn't surprise me to see it launch shortly after the release of the epic and fascinate. as for all these other problems some of the galaxy users have noticed, i'm sure samsung is working hard to smooth things out. when you release a new phone, especially one with multiple features, you're sure to find some issues with it. they'll smooth everything out. as for my vibrant, i haven't noticed anything real serious with it. it runs really smooth. i have noticed the signal meter can get out of whack, but it never drops a call and i always am connected. so it doesn't really concern me too much! if they can fix it, that would be nice.

Those are still planned to be apart of the update correct?

    Yes.

End of September isn't really that long of a wait. I remember a month ago when people were sooooo excited for this phone and how it will have 2.1 and how amazing it would be.

Now here we are with a great phone with 2.1, and people are already getting their panties in a bunch over having to wait another month.

Chances are good that a dev will have 2.2 available before Samsung does, so don't worry.

Okay back to Android Froyo, I want that too.

That's what I'm SAYIN! I too am grandfathered in. I just rooted my phone yesterday and got the wifi hot spot rockin and was thinking to myself "man I love unlimited data". If they found some way to pull an AT&T and cap my shit, I'd bail out faster than they could say "Holy wifi hotspot, Batman!"

Looking very forward to 2.2 (mmm...flash...) and all the cool changes it will bring...I just hope it doesn't bring a bunch of bad changes with it.

Anyone know if my rooting the thing will affect my ability to get the ota update?

google it... I heard you can watch live streaming... I need that... and I also need to copy text from an email using the email app (not the browser)... that's gonna work with 2.2 ... oh... and I wanna watch flash videos ... I go on a newspaper's site where they have soccer highlights... can't watch those with 2.1... 2.2 makes it possible...

there was a time where I would have agreed with that statement but sadly I have to say that every day I own this phone I am less and less impressed by it.

    It's really not that great.

Sure, it has a great display, but it can't even handle basic tasks, like checking for email on the intervals I tell it to. Its supposed to check every 10 minutes, I do a manual check at 3:00 and get 5 mails from 1:15.

Sometimes it tells me I have no mail at all when email is sitting on my server.

My alarm sometimes simply does not work, sometimes it does but the snoozing does not work.

Today while browsing the web an incoming call rang once and went straight to the missed call screen. Contact management sucks. No voice dial via Bluetooth (I know this is not a bug, but I understand we will have this with Froyo).

    Then there's the GPS...

Honestly, in its current state this phone just isn't that great and a lot about it makes me miss my blackberry. The screen sucked and web browsing was primitive at best, but at least it was a reliable communications device.

Seriously man, **** avatar, Samsung needs to step up and fix this phone. Its blatently obvious that it was rushed to market without being properly tested.

Knowing what I know now I don't think I would buy it again and I definitely can't recommend it to others.

This is why I hope to see a major update to this phone.

    Yes it is :D

Known issue with Eclair on the device, which is why I use the gmail app. Never fails. My wife doesn't have problems using stock messaging app with her yahoo account for some reason.

Same with my wife. She loves to snooze, and after 3 times of doing so it never went off again. Was almost late to work. Use a 3rd party alarm like Bedside and the problem goes away. Now that I think about it...my wife still snoozes 2-3 times every morning, and it's worked flawlessly besides that first time for her. She still uses the stock alarm app.

I've had this happen with the following devices as well: Nokia, BlackBerry, and every other smartphone I've ever had.

    I think it's great *shrug*

I can voice dial just fine using bluetooth, but I've only used Vlingo, a free 3rd party voice-to-text app. Try that. Otherwise, I know other features such as visual voicemail, etc, require a bluetooth device with A2DP compatibility, which most earpieces don't have. It's because of how the audio is stored and played back.

Some have the issue, some don't. I haven't applied any fixes and my GPS has worked solid with turn by turn directions never failing.

My communications reliability actually increased after switching from my 9700 to the Vibrant. I got dropped calls about 3 - 4 times per day, every day on my BB. Not one dropped call on the Vibrant in two weeks.

I'm telling James Cameron on you! :D

:) Thanks for your suggestions Justin.

Not to completely thread jack, but can you explain how you are using Gmail? Are you using an address such as email@gmail.com or are you running your personal email through gmail - such as email@mydomain.com

I have my own domain name and my emails are set up there, I understand that it is possible to run my mail through gmail servers, is this what you are doing?

PS - I also had issues with my blackberry re: dropped calls, seemed that it usually happened when the phone transitioned from wifi calling back to the network. Used to frustrate me to no end, made me curse my blackberry and dream of the day when I could upgrade to an android phone.....

Grass is always greener I guess. Regardless, I really want to love this phone, I do - but there is still a lot I miss about my trusty old blackberry. Here's hoping things can get sorted out.

    pps. **** James Cameron....

    :p haha

There is actually no problem with the snooze, it comes stock set to 3 repeats for the snooze, you can change the number of times snooze goes off, up to 10.

    go to alarm
    then set the alarm
    go down to snooze
    click it
then you can adjust the duration
and the number of times it repeats, stock is 3, max is 10.

As far as the gps goes, are you running it with "use network locations" turned on or off. If on...try turning it off, thats the only real way to know if your GPS truely works flawlessly. Having that on is cheating.
