Help Samsung Galaxy s2 home screen background

Hi, since my phones latest update, whenever I go to set a picture as my home/lock screen background, a square box comes up that I can move around which allows me to pick which part of the picture i want on my screen. This results in the picture on the home screen being stretched and blurry. Why, when the picture is the right shape for the rectangular screen, do I have to crop it to a square? Is there any way to turn this Off and just set the full picture as the background like I could before the update?
