Now that the VM Samsung Intercept is getting OS 2.2, will it become superior over the LG Optimus V since the update is supposed to fix the problems 2.1 had?

Only time will tell if the Intercept ever gets the 2.2 update.

Samsung Intercept was first released on Sprint in July 2010 and then on Virgin Mobile USA in Oct 2010. LG Optimus V was released on Virgin Mobile USA in Feb 2011. Intercept had Android 2.1 Eclair when released and LG Optimus V came out with Android 2.2 Froyo. Intercept has physical QWERTY Keyboard, real glass touch screen, better speaker phone, heats less and better battery life. LG Optimus V has better screen resolution, separate CPU + GPU + Modem processor and Better Rev. A baseband. All other specs are more or less same. Both phones are bufilt for different audiences and have their own strengths and weaknesses. Android 2.1 Eclair along with some design problems made Samsung Intercept laggy and freezy. Hopefully, Android 2.2 Froyo will make it better than before. Unfortunately, elite Sprint users did not post any feedback at all after Froyo release to their Intercept (probably, they were too mad due to all Intercept issues prior to Froyo release and all issues they faced after Froyo release). Thus, we will have to come back in a year from Monday 4/11/2011 and compare the feedback from customers of Samsung Intercept and LG Optimus V. We will know for sure then. We also will have to see which hardware/phone body is made to withstand long term heavy duty all weather inside/outside use.

The Intercept has a 800mhz processor and can run mid-ranged apps and 265mb RAM.
The Optimus has a 600mhz (the processor number suggests that it is an older cpu) but has a GPU and 512mb of RAM.

Despite the addition of more memory and a GPU the Intercept can run higher end apps because of the Optimus's CPU. (Something to do with the difference in cpu models) However the Optimus is more responsive with better visuals.

    Intercept
If you want to run higher end apps and you like an actual keyboard.

    Optimus
If you want your phone to respond well and look pretty.

And yes, part of the reason the Optimus preforms well is the 2.2 OS, so the intercept will also preform very well when it gets the 2.2 OS.

According to Virgin Mobile USA Facebook Discussion board:

Here are some benefits you can get with the Samsung Intercept upgrade to Froyo:

-The most important benefit of FroYo is the speed improvement. This can vary per device but overall the device gets noticeably faster and systems become more stable.
-Various improvements to device UI, such as new 3D gallery, camera interface, calendar, etc,
-Cloud to Device messaging that allows users to send apps, web pages, directions and other objects directly to your phone.
-You can now install selected applications onto an SD card to save precious internal memory space
-Latest Google Applications, including a new Android Market with new look and feel.
-Some apps can be updated automatically
-Phone lock by PIN and password added
    -Remove wipe and lock support

These features will not be implemented in the M910 FroYo upgrade:
    -Adobe Flash support
    -Portable WiFi hotspot support
    -Live wallpaper
    -Car mode application

    :)

So after 4/11/2011 VM USA Samsung Intercept Froyo update, it would be time to rigorously test Samsung Intercept performance.

Play Angry Birds or run Pocket Legends on both, and you'l see that the Intercept is just not a good phone. not everyone plays games, I know that, but they are a good benchmark for how well a phone will work. I had an Intercept and hated the performance.

Me and my friend both have the VM Intercept except he got the update and well I haven't. I compared my friend's Intercept vs my brother's LG Optimus V. With the 2.2 Update, my friend's Intercept runs just as fast as my brother's LG Optimus V. Games like Angry Birds work perfectly on my friends's Intercept. I made my decision that the Intercept is better than the Optimus V. I'm looking foward to also receiving 2.2 on my phone.

It all depends on what you need in your smart phone.

If you are cost conscious - then pick up LG Optimus V (USD 150) vs Samsung Intercept (USD 200-250)

If you like physical keyboard and use phone for heavy e-mailing/text - then pick up Samsung Intercept (Slideout physcial keyboard) vs LG Optimus V (only on screen software keyboard)

If one wants more RAM - then pick up LG Optimus V 512 MB RAM vs Samsung Intercept 256 MB RAM

If you like better screen resolution, better colors - then pick up LG Optimus V ( 320 x 480 screen 16 Mln colors) vs Samsung Intercept ( 240 x 400 screen and 65 K colors)

If you like real glass touch screen - then pick up Samsung Intercept vs LG Optimus V (fibre glass touch screen)

If you like separate CPU, GPU, Data Processor - Then pick up LG Optimus V (Dual Core Processor MSM7627 - 600MHz Applications Processor and 400 MHz Modem Processor for data transfers, a floating point unit and a 320MHz application DSP, and a real dedicated GPU to perform 3D accelerations and video encoding/decoding) vs Samsung Intercept (800 Mhz CPU - Chipset: Samsung (S3C6410) + Qualcomm (QSC6075))

*** Qualcomm QSC6075 solution integrates baseband modem, multimedia engines, multi-band radio transceiver and power management into a single chip to eliminate the need for many discrete components.

Qualcomm News and Events - Press Releases - Qualcomm Expands Family of Single-Chip Solutions to Support CDMA2000 1xEV-DO

*** The S3C6410 processor features a built-in, state-of-the-art 3D, 4M triangles/sec hardware accelerator with OpenGL ES 1.1/ 2.0 and D3DM API support. Products incorporating this hardware accelerator in the S3C6410 enjoy the following advantages: 3D graphics performance unmatched by software-only implementations
Reduced board space, since no external 3D graphics hardware is required
Better load balancing by relieving the CPU from cycle intensive 3D graphics functions
Lower power consumption due to optimized and dedicated hardware, resulting in longer battery life
    High-quality video playback
Built-in hardware and Multi-Format Codec to enhance the multimedia experience
Optimized interface for high memory bandwidth requirements
Software support to reduce application design time
Rich peripherals to reduce total system cost and enhance overall functionality
Memory stacking options for smaller footprints

    SAMSUNG's Digital World

If you like better speaker phone - then pick up Samsung Intercept vs LG Optimus V

If you like better battery life - then pick up Samsung Intercept vs LG Optimus V

If you want Android 2.2 (FroYo) - then pick up LG Optimus V vs Samsung Intercept (though Samsung Intercept is scheduled to be upgraded from Android 2.1 Eclair to Android 2.2 in Sprint 2011)

If one wants a phone that heats less - then pick up Samsung Intercept vs LG Optimus V

If you like low SAR rating for health and safety reasons - then both are more or less same in SAR rating.

According to the FCC, Samsung Intercept has a digital SAR of 0.72 watt per kilogram and according to CNET review LG Optimus V has a digital SAR of 1.04 watts per kilogram.

    CNET review is at:

Samsung Intercept Review - Watch CNET's Video Review

LG Optimus V Review - Watch CNET's Video Review

The LG User Guide and FCC Website have 0.70 SAR for LG Optimus V. So then LG Optimus V is better for SAR.

Also, search term - samsung intercept vs lg optimus v - in Youtube. There are many videos that can show you the actual live comparison.

    .
Which one will be better for Google Voice, especially for incoming GV calls?
Which application should better be used for that?
Do you know good install-configuration GV manual (cause I'm new to Android)?

    Thanks.
