I bought my Samsung moment 2 days ago and when I first got it I let it fully charge. The next day when I went to go unplug it after 3 or 4 hours of it being unplugged it just died, and I didn't touch it or anything. What do I do about this? I also noticed today that it charges quick too... so could that be why the battery doesn't last that long?:confused::confused:

You may have a defective battery. My battery from dead takes anywhere from 2.5-3 hours to fully charge. Yes the battery for the moment does suck. There is a whole thread stickied at the top for you to read through.

did they do the firmware update on it before you left the store? Believe the update addressed most of the quirks in the battery. So if that's the case, there is the possibility of a defective battery. I have a blackjack battery that fits well and works on the Moment, but it can't hold a charge for any length of time on it to save its life.

After the CL14 firmware update I've noticed a definite improvement in overall battery life. Used to be that my Moment had to be connected at home and at work (though I do use it a lot) but now I can go a day without charging it until I get home.

The battery isn't near that bad i take my phone off the charger when i get up around 8:30-9:00am and its fine till i goto bed and put it on the charger at 10:00-11:00pm(my battery's usually around 15-30% by then) so id definitely go2 sprint and see if you got a defective battery. The battery may not be the best but its better then what your stating.

Almost as amazing to me as that kind of battery life is that you're getting 9.5 to 11 hours of sleep a day :)

I've lost 3-5 hours of battery life since my update, not too happy there. Maybe an app setting that's doing it, but I haven't figure it out yet.

i just got my moment 2 days ago. i have "enable gps satellites" on because at my job i use the sprint navigation a lot. I woke up this morning took the phone off the charger fully charged, open zedge played 2 clips for my girlfriend and searched for 3 more clips. closed the app and looked at the battery % and it was at 80%

i bought the phone used from someone but it is in great shape no scratches or anything. do yoiu think i should take it to sprint store and see if they can tell me if the battery is bad?

They probably did not do the firmware update when you bought your phone believe it or not. You need to take it to a store that is able to do 'repairs' (listed on sprints website) and they update it. I just got mine done today. and No you cant update it by clicking 'update' on your phone has to be done at Sprint.

My charger doesn't charge my phone correctly. It will say 100%, but it drops to 80% within the hour. Try plugging it into a computer or something after it has been charged and see if it will charge more. I also bought a different generic charger that works very well. Definetly get the update on your phone. Also, after the update if you enable "Use wireless networks" so that the GPS will work better, turn it off when you are done. There is a new "known" bug that causes that setting to put your phone in a sleep/wake loop that will kill your battery.

ok. i will definetly take it to the sprint store to have them update it. i am a police officer and just got assigned to a new district where i dont know the streets 100% yet so when i had the palm pre it was perfect i kept the sprint navi open in a card and would throw in an address when i needed it it worked perfectly. Now with the moment tonight is my first night with the phone at work so i may just have to see what happens. i just learned about holding the home button to pull up their version of multi tasking which i like.

If it comes down to it i will just keep the moment on the charger in the car and not worry about the battery at all. I know another guy i work with has the mytouch and keeps google maps open at all times with it plugged in so he can see what street hes on etc which i think is a pretty cool idea too.

I will have to turn on the use wireless networks when not at work so as not to drain the battery too much. It seems the battery holds at 70% for a while though so hopefully the update helps out the phone reading the % and i can move on with my new lovely moment

With original software. and simply taking care to not run programs that prevented the phone from sleeping (like the ridiculous battery status widget, how ironic is that?), I was getting about 30 hrs from full charge of the battery (and that included the immediate drop off to 80%, within twenty minutes of disconnecting).

Since the software update to Cupcake14, the battery is BRILLIANT. I went all day with pretty regular use (several calls, texts, check email frequently, etc.) and I had 80% battery when I went to bed 20 hrs later! I was usually at 30% prior to the update!

Can we please merge this with Battery thread? The same information is being answered as in the thread.

wow! yea i noticed that it drops to 80% then to 70% pretty quickly but holds steady at 70%, again this is only with a few days that i have lightly used it. i work tonight so i will leave it unplugged when i get to work and see what the % looks like when i get home in the morning.

sounds like just a glitch and it really isnt 80% but i think its mental too, when i see the first empty space in the battery icon in my head im thinking "omg gotta conserve power" so then i dont use it as much as i want because i dont want it dropping any further cause i will start to panic lol

Is there anyway to tell if sprint updated the firmware on my phone when i bought it? I just bought this moment a few weeks ago, and have noticed that the battery life sucks. I have even gone back to sprint store once already and had them give me a new battery.

My phone won't even last a whole 8hr shift at work, and thats with me charging it in my truck during my lunch break. So not sure what is going on but something is killing my battery life quick.

I am new to the android based phones (always had windows mobile phones) but I figure the battery should last more than 8hrs (and that is 8hrs with out me even making a single phone call, only check email or maybe sending a text or two).

I have tried the task killer programs from the market but I don't really see any diffrence. If I am to beleive the task killer program things seem to just open up in the back ground out of know where. I will check the task killer program and notice like 5, 6 or 7 things will be open in the back ground none of which i used at all during that day....

What else can i do to get more life out of the battery, heck at the rate this has been going I can't wait to see how the battery does when I ACTUALLY have to make a long phone call.

How frequent are you checking your email accounts?? I've set mine to the longest duration and my battery will last 18+ hours no problem. My wife has a Samsung Moment too, and she has it checking her email every 5 minutes. And she has about the same battery life that you're describing. She's learned to live with it since she wants emails to be that frequent. I've noticed that even though I've set mine to an hour that it will check every time I unlock the screen, and then once an hour if the screen is locked.

I have mine set to the longest duration as well....every hour. Is there some way I can check to see if I have the latest update? I bought mine at bestbuy so not sure if they put the latest update on my maybe that is the problem, because I am not getting anywhere as long of a charge out of my phone as y'all are getting.

I have to wonder how most people are carrying their phone. I keep mine in my pocket with the screen against my leg for protection and I believe it is draining the phone. I have left my phone out and it seems to keep a charge much better than if I have been storing it in my pocket. Withing 3 hours of the phone in my pocket I am down to 50-60 percent with no phone calls and maybe a couple of texts. Outside of my pocket I can be at 70 percent at the end of the day after making calls, texts, web browsing and sudoku.

This is just something I have observed and think that there may be something to it.

    Edit:
Oh yeah...today I had it in my pocket for about five hours and found it dead when I went to use it.

Go to Menu>Settings>About Phone. Scroll down to Baseband version, should be S:M900.8.OS.CL14 and Build Number should be CUPCAKE.CL14. If it's CL05 then you do not have the update.

I always keep my phone sitting on my desk at work, and even at home. When i am walking around i keep it in my jacket pocket (almost never keep it in my pants pocket).

I guess the only way for me to figure out if i have the latest update on my phone is to go into a sprint store i take it???

Just hit menu, then settings, then go to the bottom and select "About Phone." If your build number is Cupcake.CL14 then you have the latest update.
