    I have an HTC Hero, but since I had a tour before that, I miss my qwerty keyboard. Plus, my big man hands don't like the lack of real estate on the Hero.

    Long story short, I've bought a moment on Ebay that will be here today. My question is, do all the moments have problems?

    I'm okay with the battery thing; I can charge via USB, but if things are definitely going to randomly break on it, that's not cool . I don't want to activate the new phone only and sell the hero only to have it fail three weeks from now. My hero is solid, doesn't have any of the problems of others so I plan on keeping it for a week or two and hoping for a samsung update. In the meantime, I just wanted to know if anyone got lucky and had one that just works?

    Oh, and I can't return mine to Sprint over and over if it has defects because I don't have the 30 days. Or does sprint take returns for any defective phones within a year, no matter where you buy them?

    As far as I can tell (3days later) mine is fine (GPS and all).

    My previous Moment was also fully functioning for the first two weeks... then stopped recognizing the charger (very rare problem, in fact I may be the only one to have that issue). But aside from that, everything worked great:)

    I thought you said you were cool with the battery thing?
    The battery mis-estimating seems to be an issue for the entire Moment production line. And just like the absent 'missed call/text/whatever' LED notification, it will likely be easily fixed by the upcoming update.

    Has there been a smart phone released in the last 5 years that hasn't had some sort of problem(s)?

    The Moment has had the least amount and most minor of problems I have heard about regarding current smartphones

    I have had almost every variety of smart phone, and each one has had their share of problems.

    The memory leak on my Blackberry was fairly nasty, the Centro's would freeze every once in a while.

    However, my Samsung Moment has been nearly flawless. Still some minor problems, but given that it is really a mini-computer, it's proportion of small flaws to it's capability is impressive.

    This phone rocks, but it's not appropriate to people who are afraid to dabble and learn the phone through trial & error.

    I have my fingers crossed that the upcomming updates will not only fix bugs but also tweak performance and yield an even better average battery life per charge. The power management for android must be tweaked for each device/chipset to work efficiently. I also believe samsung half assed the drivers as well due to the fact some drivers seem either non existing or unoptimized. The compass and gps are perfect example but that's my opinion.

    @critical.

    I just was curious to see if there were any that didn't have the meter problem. I am okay with it though.

    @Adrift.

    I hear you on issues. There are just some things I'm okay with (battery, GPS if it's fixable with an update, etc.) and some things I'm not (stuck in airplane mode forever, touch screen stops working completely).

    I'm also hopeful it will gain root eventually. And I'm pretty patient with updates as it's only been out a couple weeks. I have faith in Sprint, but sadly I can't keep the Hero and the Moment forever so I just hope I get a good Moment that won't fail (irrecoverably) and leave me $300 in the hole since I'm outside my 30 days.

    I think a month from the time they realize the problem is reasonable IMO. They need to send out a tweet hit up the sprint forums or something though. Sht getting rediculous.

    I have had my Moment for three weeks now and no issues. I had to train the battery for the first couple of days, but now its lasting over an entire day with constant usage.

    The battery meter is still quirky, but with the quick settings application installed for free off the marketplace.. i get a more accurate battery percentage.

    I have had my share of issues with my phone, though nothing has been so bad that the phone is unusable. My GPS could function better, but seems to do well enough when I really need it. I get the occasional wrong ringtone played, but other than that I'm very happy with this phone.

    Thanks for all the encouragement thus far. I bought it without really reading all the horror stories so here's hoping I get a good one. Like I said, I'll be keeping the hero for a week or two just in case.

    Once everyone gets out of the 30 days, would Samsung replace faulty handsets or is it still Sprint? I'm concerned since I'm buying mine third-party.

    Yup, for instance it dropped gradually from 100% to 70% all day yesterday with light use, today it's been off charge for about an hour and a half, and is still at 100%

    You should feel very comfortable and confident with your decision. The biggest problem that you can have with any phone is one that applies to the harware, because there is no fix for that. I assume you have read through this forum? How many hardware issues have you seen? 1? Maybe 2? And none of them have been prominant.

    You have made the best decision as it could apply to a phone that has been released within the last six months (or longer). And when the update comes, it will be even better :)

    The 'horror' stories are actually coming from Droid and Hero users than Moment users, at least what I read on their respective forums. Maybe this is due to those phones receiving significantly more market exposure than the Moment or because those manufacturers decided to invest in slicker software than hardware.

    I purchased my Moment on November 1st, had two bad instances of battery failure due to the software meter indicating 5% and my screen dimming, but after two drains and recharges the phone has performed flawlessly.

    I opted for the Moment and its impressive specs (still the fastest phone on the market) because I needed a reliable phone, not a toy. After struggling with a horrible HTC Touch Pro for eight months the Moment is a welcome change.

    I love my moment but i wouldn't make that statement.. it isn't the fastest phone on the market.. even though the speed at 800 mhz is faster then the droids 600 mhz the ARM11 chip isn't as good as the Cortex A8... So eventhough the speed looks faster on the moment, the droid runs either as good or a tad bit better then the moment.. even with 200mhz slower processor...

    Thanks again for the good news. I guess the forums are good for issues, but I was just curious. Looks like I'll be booting it up when I get it in the mail today and seeing how it goes. I'm just pretty much screwed if there is anything hardware related wrong with it, though (I am buying it brand new however so that's hopeful). That is, unless it has a samsung warranty regarding complete failure. idk.

    Ok, to answer both your questons, everyone pretty much is having the same issues with the battery. Now, it is not the battery itself as it is the inaccurate reading of battery power. Don't let that scare you off. I actually almost returned it yesterday but opted to have more patience. Today was the first time I saw some real power on my phone. Here's what I did: let it drained till it died for the first three days and that didn't seem to help. Then I read what a member had done and it worked for me.

    I plugged in the phone all night. In the morning when I woke up, I unplugged and replugged the charger. That seemed to 'reset' the battery meter and it continued to charge for the 45-50 minutes it takes me to get ready (yes, I am a woman! LOL). That made a TREMENDOUS impact on the battery life of my phone (e.g., I unplugged the device around 7:30 and at noon I still had 70% left with pretty good usage through that time frame).

    In regards to the second question, yes. Sprint will change your device within the manufacturer's warranty time (usually one year). Then its up to you to figure it out (unless, of course, you have equipment protection).

    Alright, just got the Moment in the mail. I'm really digging the build quality. The Hero's is good too, but I'm excited about this phone. Off to activate it. Here hoping I didn't get a lemon! Here's hoping I'm a moment convert :)

    have fun! it is really a great and underrated phone. no deal breakers for me. battery meter bug will be fixed i'm sure... (we had the same issue with the instinct when it first came out)... and gps will get fixed to work better eventually i'm sure.

    Yes, the Droid is impressive on paper, but it would take more than the Droid to get me back to VZW. The way they treat thier customers is atrocious, and their prices can't compete.

    Yeah....I completely agree with you. They were also EXTREMELY rude to me every time I called or had a billing issue. They kept changing their fees....it was horrible. With Sprint, I went through wirefly to get my phones, had a problem with them and Sprint, even though it wasn't their responsibility or problem, immediately stepped up to the plate to help me.

    Lol wasent advocating the droid or verizon.. droid has a nicer resolution screen.. but the moments AMOLED screen makes the droid look like an old black and white TV with rabbit ears (dead serious.. having the droid and moment next to each other the droid looks incredibly bleached out in color)... Just wanted to point out the statement wasen't factual and didnt want anyone to be mislead with it.. the moment is not the fastests android phone out there.. but it is one of the fastest..
