Thought I would post the link I found since there are no threads for the phone. It looks a lot like an iphone, but one thing that seems to make it stand out is it's d-pad - something most manufacturers have moved from - which would be VERY useful for gameboid and other emulators so you can have the game across the full 4" screen. With it's 1Ghz cpu, this doesn't seem bad at all for anyone who cares more about the game department.

Anyone else out there actually considering this phone?

EDIT: It looks like it might not have a dpad.

Here's the official page. Considering? Heh. With 720p recording/playback, MKV/FLAC playback, super amoled, bluetooth 3.0, 802.11n.... I think you'd be crazy not to. The questions are: where & when?

I prefer the looks of the newest incredible pictures(which has a 8 megaixel camera), and i'm sticking with verizon no matter what so it depends. I'd probably go with this phone though because of the dpad.

This is really now starting to look like a total rip off of the iPhone. This must be really embarrassing to Google to have Samsung dress up Android to mimic (more like CLONE) the design of the iPhone UI.

I was so excited when I first read the news about the Samsung Wave with the Super AMOLED capacitative screen until I saw that it ran on Samsung's flagship Bada OS...which was a big turnoff. When I saw the news of the Samsung Galaxy S, my excitement came back when I read that it has a Super AMOLED screen and runs on the Android OS. I will have to agree with mobimop that the design of the phone is somewhat lacking and unoriginal. And is it me or does the screen shot of the menu page of the phone looks like the menu page that's on the Bada OS? lol

Some of the specs that I think make the Galaxy S stand out from other android phones:
    -Super AMOLED capacitative touchscreen
    -8GB or 16GB internal memory
    -size: it's only 9.9mm thick
    - HD 720p video recording

The raw specs of the Galaxy S look quite appealing, and are comparable to other high-end phones that have been announced (I know, the EVO 4G outdoes em all). It's really too bad that Samsung decided to build an un-original UI that's a direct rip-off of the iPhone (which isn't that great of an interface in the first place).

actually spec wise i'd say this beats the evo. the screen is MUCH better and only slightly smaller. this also has 8 or 16 gb over 1. why connect your cell phone to a hdtv anyways? especially if it doesnt have enough space for high quality movies or shows. the evo is mostly show.

Oh man...just imagine if the Envo 4G has a Super AMOLED screen!!! The phone would be unstoppable!! lol...and some more memory...One thing I like about the Galaxy S is the memory selection of 8gb or 16gb...ALL phones should have more memory then...less than 1gb that most Android phones seem to have :(

Frankly, this could be the best phone in the world and I wouldn't buy it after the farce Samsung had with the original Galaxy that I'm now forced to suffer with for another 12 months.

I'll only buy this phone if it can be rooted and a fully functioning version of HTC Sense can be ported over. Otherwise I'd want the EVO (too bad EVO doesn't use the super amoled...Dang it!)

Anyone else in the same boat?

After the whole debacle with the SE xperia x10, I think this would be the next choice for me.

The evo is nice, but there are no plans to release in Europe, which sucks for me. The HDMI connection is not essential though it would be nice if it has xenon flash with the camera, but I guess you can't have it all.

As for the UI, of course it wants to compete with iphone, it is only natural that someone makes a play for apple's market. Actually this UI seems a lot like the Bada UI.

good work samsung, now the waiting game begins

    In what way?
Appart from wimax (which is still in infancy. Or maybe a fetus still.), there is nothing really special about it. I'd say they are on an eyuall footing. Also, motorola has been quiet for some time. There is also DELL mini5.

You can't save an app on it though... not to mention sd cards are very slow. People say apps don't take up much space but that's because there's no point in making a larger one if no one has much memory. :(

Man, the Super AMOLED and superior 3D processing power really have me on the fence whether to get this or the EVO, should the Galaxy come to Sprint as well, that is.

I love how the EVO looks, but I am very disappointed with the TFT screen it has. 4G is nice, but I doubt I'll get it near my area anytime soon either.

The UI seems rather unattractive on this phone, but It's likely it could be rooted after it came out to something better.

Sad as it may sound, I'm almost hoping this doesn't release on Sprint just so I don't have a hard time choosing between this and the EVO!

Oh, yeah. They are not slow. 20-50 MByte/s is hardly slow. Enough to record HD Video for example.

Much slower than moviNand etc though. These days it really is slow for storage. If someone is transferring hd movies on the phone all the time the transfer speeds could get very annoying.

Also, it still isn't much of a point because the evo might be able to get a 16gb card (or potentially 32) but that gives it 33 gigs max (17 without paying way to much for memory) while this phone has a max of 48, and 32gb at a reasonable price.

I mean are you sure it has D-pad? I would have loved GS then!

This video has different story to tell, however... listen at 3.25.00 please...

as nice as this phone is with its samoled screen and large internal memory i still have to go with the evo. it comes down to the manufacturers for me and htc has always been amazing for me, and the xda community is the best hacking community around period. im not big on apps anyway besides the basic stuff and a few games, and apps2sd will be working as soon as the evo gets rooted anyway if i did need more space.

4g means nothing to me because boston is the closest market for me and thats about 45 minutes away. i have to say i prefer sense over this ui samsung has made though. i also wonder how easily will it be to root the galaxy s and how big will the dev community be for it? will sammy abandon it like they did the original galaxy?

i guess this is one of those good problems though. no matter what phone i choose it will be a awesome one.

You are fortunate to have a choice. Although if the evo ever did come to the UK I would still pick the samsung as 4G is a myth here haha

Hmm I had seen a review that said it did. It could have been wrong or it's even possible that some will and some won't. It would be weird, but has been done before (verizon's omnia 2).

There are also rumors that the Galaxy S coming via At&T in the United States.

it does look like a very nice phone

but you would want to hope it works out of the box, cause updates will be non existent, and the ones they do release will only have more bugs

i previously owned the original galaxy, and it was the worst phone experience i have ever had, seriously ... ever

i have since moved onto a Nexus one and am very happy and as such i would recommend anyone against a samsung android phone, as nice as the specs are, the updates will be annoying more than useful, an updates is one of androids biggest features
