How do you guys like it? I don't think it is really that big of a deal (I am a root user though). I don't see what all the hype is about.

    Just interested.

And in the poll by rooted I mean with a ROM installed.

I think the below quote is very true about what is new now that we have the 2.1 Update.

Nader, don't feel bad. I would have voted but I sometimes read posts in the Tapatalk app which apparently doesn't include polls and a few other things. Nice app otherwise. And I'm rooted running Cyanogen and well satisfied.

Also keep in mind that some people browsing these forums might not even have a Droid. I know I sometimes go and look at the N1 forums because I'm interested to know what they think of their phone and a sort of how-the-other-side-lives perspective. Then I quickly come back because it makes me sad to see how much they have to complain about.

I voted "Rooted and don't have it". Nothing in there that wasn't already in BB .9. I am going to flash the baseband though...

All in all i just completed the update. I was expecting a lot more like more home screens, flash. I honestly don't understand why it took so long to develop the content that was updated. Honestly unless there is just one guy on the development team who is only allowed to work on updates for thirty minutes a day. I'am majorly disapointed. Google should really be giving the droind more attention along with mot.

This phone was suppose to be a I-Phone killer and while the phone has a ton of potential i would like to see more for us droid users before the next flavor of the week comes along and we are forgoten.

I'am not a big fan of the I-Phone but Apple definitly knows the formula to making their customers happy.

Right now i'am on the fence. I really don't know if i would recommend a droid to a friend jsut for the fact that i feel as if the droid is already being treated like a red headed step child.

Yeah, I love the forums, but I won't ever root or even attempt a manual update and this is coming from a non-Luddite. Not only does the hassle not seem worth it for my needs, but I don't want to do ANYTHING to screw up my Droid. I love it too much. :)

With only 10,000 updates out thus far and only 200,000 going out per day thereafter, it ought to take a few days if not a week or more, for all users to get it.

So, I'm waiting patiently and curious to see how many days it takes for all to have it aka how many Droids were sold. ;) Thus your poll has relevance to me if I check it every day and see that last option increase each day. And I'm willing to bump this thread up each day for this info. hehe

You DO know that the Android 2.1 only came out in January with the Nexus One. You're getting pissy over having to wait a little under three months to be in league with Google's flagship Android phone?!?!

And, incidentally, Google DOESN'T DO Flash. That's Adobe. Adobe hasn't released their mobile version yet and you're never going to see THAT on the iPhone. Jobs hates Flash, but it's due to land sometime in the next three months for the Droid.

If you want more home screens, guess what? There's an app for dat! I use Open Home, but there are several alternative home apps.

IMO, I think the Droid with or without the 2.1 update is better than most phones including the Iphone. I would still recommend this phone especially to people looking for a great phone at a great price. The Droid will be a viable contender for a long time for people looking to buy a smartphone.

Easy there buddy, i was just stating my opinon. Obviously google does not do flash but i feel for the amount of time we waited it should have been included in this update. Talks should have been started with Adobe after droids day one release, because most articles were complaining about that already.

I have used the open home ap, installed it and hated it. It also is the only ap i have experienced to date that lagged my phone.

With as much publicity they are giving the droid they need to give the actual operating system on it more attention is all i'am saying. Do you really think this update should of taken 3 months to develop?

I don't think you fully understand the eco-system. This wasn't exactly "in development" for three months. Lord only knows how long and how many people worked on it for the Nexus One. However, once Google released it (just a week or so after launching the Nexus) to the manufacturers (in this case Motorola) it is their responsibility to iron out any potential wrinkles based on their particular hardware (of which there should have been few wrinkles for the Droid given it uses a generic version of Android, i.e. without HTC's sense or something like that ). Then Motorola passes the baton to Verizon. I'll bet the biggest hangup was with Verizon because it appears that Motorola passed it off to them in February given several posts like on Facebook by Mot that was avaialable were rescinded and a later announcement that was taken back by Verizon about a week ago. It seems that they out-source their update pushes to an HP company that didn't have the capacity to serve this high a number of users or something like that.

(whew, let me catch my breath here)

Secondly, Google can NOT GIVE YOU Flash! It doesn't have Flash. How could it include it? Adobe owns Flash and has been promising their mobile app for a long, long time, but has been pushing back its schedule. Adobe really is the late comer in this matter. Neither Google nor the manufacturers have control over this at all. They've been in talks with Adobe for ages, all are in agreement, it's coming to Android as soon as Adobe
is finished polishing it. In fact, Droids and Palm's Pres will be first to get it.

Lastly, try another home app, although I have absolutely no lag problems with Open Home and I love that little launch pad that you can slide off to get out of the way. I don't like loading up my home screens with apps and shortcuts so I just keep my most used ones on that and just a few other widgets and apps on the two other screens leaving my first screen pretty clear so that my post-it notes stand out.

I don't think that the delay was for anything you are "seeing" currently. While Flash is separate from Android...they are interrelated. Adobe needs a platform to build flash for...which has been rumored to be 2.1. Perhaps Adobe testers found problems with the first 2.1 release and thus pulled back the update.

The main reason the 2.1 update was a "big" deal for consumers is that they thought there would be "more in it for them". While I feel the update was watered down from a user app/interface perspective, there may have been giant leaps made in this update that allows Flash to run without killing the phone's performance.

My point is that I feel like 2.1 was more intended for future usage than it was to enhance the user's experience today.

Oh...and the Droid won't be forgotten...there are way too many people that own one.

And then what would be the excuse for moving the date on the Palm Pre? When the Pre launched in June '09, Adobe said it would be the first phone to get the beta of mobile Flash in the fourth quarter of '09. Didn't happen and it wasn't because of some update to the Pre.

And when the Droid was released with 2.0, Adobe said it would be among the first to get the beta in 2010 along with the Pre and that would be in the first quarter. Now it's before the end of the 2nd quarter. I don't think Adobe would delay its product just for the Droid and Nexus when it has been promised to other phones as well.

I have no idea why the Pre did not get flash yet. Flash is not a little app that runs in the background. It is a very complex program that needs lots of resources to run (why you're not going to see it on lower level phones). The Pre could have had major issues during testing...IDK...I don't pay attention to anything Palm makes...it's crap in my opinion and I hold them in the lowest regard.

As to the Droid...I have not seen anything that said something to the contrary of "the droid will get flash within the first half of 2010". It's now April...so as far as I'm concerned, Adobe has not failed to deliver...they just haven't delivered it yet. If flash is released and it is very slow and sluggish...that will be a HUGE issue. I hope they take their time and get it right. A great implementation of flash in June is better than a half-baked, slow implementation now. You see the chaos that the 2.1 update caused...wait until flash is looming...ALL eyes will be on Adobe, Moto, Google, and Verizon. If it fails, all companies will be seen in negative light.

I am satisfied with the update. I don't know if I missed it before, or if it is part of the 2.1 update, but I LOVE the speach to text button in the keyboard. It works really well and saves me a lot of time typing on the keyboard!

Sorry for the late reply. It is what controls/helps with signal (and supposedly battery life). It was included with the 2.1 update, but can be applied separately. There is a thread in the Root subforum. Worked VERY well for me.. I went From 1 bar in my room to 2. In my living room, 2 to 3/4...Very nice. Still don't know if it will help the battery, but I have seen a few reports that 2.1 update users are reporting better battery life. This likely comes from the baseband update...

I wasn't rooted and I do like the update. It makes the Droid fresh again and has a few nice things to play with but I really wanted those 5 screens.
    When's the next update???? Ha.

    Manually updated yesterday afternoon.

LOADS faster than it ever was. No need to overclock with the optimization here. Wish we had more than 3 home screens but oh well

We seem to have gotten a bit off track here, but before I return to the rails I just want to point out that it's good for Adobe to work out the kinks, but they are notoriously slow. The launch dates have continually moved back. Here's an article from June 2009:
