So annoying that when you come to end the call the backlight has gone out so you cant end without going back into the phone to see the end call button..anyway around this?
And are there any apps that lock the volume button?

    Thanks
    Chris

    1) You can press the end call button to end the call.

    2) You can press the track ball to get back the display.

Bloody irritating isn't it?! You would think that you could just touch the screen. That would be far too simple.

I'm quite bored of telling people this, but I'll do it one last time but then expect people to use the search forum feature in the future...

There is a free app in the market called shake awake which works well for this minor bug. There you go.

All right, keep your hair on! People come here to find out more!

Just a quick look through the comments section for Shake Awake shows you how many people think Shake Awake is at best useless, at worst problematic for their heros. Back to the drawing board...

Ok apologies for snapping at you. However, the reason you maybe haven't got much help or response for your question, is that its been answered several times before if only you looked into it.
    Rant over.

I have used shake awake since I've had this phone and found it works great. Occasionally it force closes, but nothing serious. It's free from the market, so you could try it and if you find it problematic, just remove it!

on the right side of your phone, next to the menu button, is a little button that looks like a phone being hung up, press it. This will end your call.

So yes, you can end the without going back into the phone.

The more frustrating part of this little 'feature' is when you phone an automated number and need to press a number to progress. More than a little confusing the first time it happens.

Thanks, I knew about the end call button but not the track ball trick; I'll have to try that next time.
