Screen going blankSupport

I am using Note3 with Andriod 4.4.2 and a original Samsung Flip cover. Of late, I have started facing a strange problem. Whenever phone is lying idle and I get any msg or incoming call and I open the flip cover, I find screen going completely blank. I start fiddling with all the buttons and touch screen but screen does't come alive. The menu button and undo button will light up on touching but beyond that nothing will happen. This continues for many agonizing seconds and if I am lucky screen comes alive. But many a time it does't then I have to long press power button to get the phone restarted.
It happens randomly. I noticed that whenever it happens the top half the screen gets warm. Initially I suspected that there is some problem with flip cover and the phone cant sense properly that it has been flipped open. I removed and put back the flip cover few times and thought that the problem is rectified but it hasn't. There seems to be some other issue. Can anybody help in this matter?

I have the same problem as you too. I notice sometimes the led spot on the top right corner might blink blue and when that happen, if I press home button, the screen goes back to normal. BUT I have no idea how to get that blue light!!!!

I hope someone knows a solution about the blank screen!!!!!!

Top right or top left? IIRC, the default blue for the top left is a notification. (Top right if the charging port is on the left in landscape mode, I guess.)

This began for me after I updated to Kitkat. I find when it happens there's an app that's "not responding" essentially holding my whole phone hostage.

All I can do at that point is what for the pop up to appear asking me if I want to wait or close the app.

Kitkat hasn't been much fun! :(

I do like the recent kitkat upgrade because battery saving is so much better....but this screen blanking is now a BIG problem.

I really hope someone can find a solution!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What you said seems to be the reason. But I never get any such pop up though. I simply have to wait or keep pressing different buttons. One thing I am sure that it started happening only after an upgrade to 4.4.2.

I gave up and reset the entire phone back to factory default. It is working fine now. I am ignoring the update that samsung prompt. I managed to get back the great battery life that I used to enjoy in note 3.

Any help from any quarter will be greatly welcome. The problem is not rectified yet and going back to factory setting will wash away all the data and applications. Since its a random problem I am managing some how so far.
