Help Screen protector + charging = broke?

I bought a tempered glass screen protector (one of the really thick ones). The touch screen responsiveness works fine with the screen protector, however, when the phone is charging (on any charger), the touch screen doesn't work right....Some areas I have to press down hard and other are super sensitive....Once I unplug the charger, everything works fine...and I have tested this without the screen protector and phone works fine with or without charger. I have no idea how a screen protector can break my phone only while charging. It makes no sense...

It's possible some localized static electricity from the SP is causing an issue?
