back when I had the Samsung Moment I used Swype all the time. But I didn't have a screen protector. So eventually my screen wore down where the soft keyboard was.

I want to use Swype but I'm afraid of ruining my LTEvo. I plan on getting a screen protector, but don't know where or which one to get. Until then, is the glass on the LTEvo okay to use Swype with?

Swype away! There will be no issues with the screen wearing down.... That is, unless your fingers are coated in sand.

I recommend the Steinheil Ultra Olephobic, easy to install, no orange peel, you can't see it and you can't feel it.

Had mine on my Evo 3D for almost year without any problems.

They don't have it available yet, so I'll wait

i Totally agree with the above, i had the zagg from the start, didnt perform well outside of protecting the screen. the Orange peel, easy bubbles on the corners, screen res looks muddy, the divots on the protector that cant go away ...bah.

Got Steinheil and was blown away , got a 2 pack from Asia seller on ebay for cheap. All problems above were gone, cant recommend enough:D.

awesome. I'll likely get this. I prefer clear, glossy protectors so there is not loss in clarity, but all of the ones I've tried got smudgy very easily. Good to know there's an oleophobic option that's also clear and glossy.

I've had ghost armor screens protectors on my last 3 phones. I'm waiting for them to make on for the LTEvo.

Had this for my Evo 4G and this was great as well. They took a long time with my 3D so I ended up getting a Steinhil.

The Steinhil doesn't require water installation, and is allegedly reusable, but I never had to take mine off.

for those of you who use steinheil..is there any major difference between the ultra oleophobic and the ultra crystal?

    • Ultra Crystal is a glossy, crystal clear, high quality, thick rigid film.
    • Ultra Oleophobic is a glossy, crystal clear, high quality, thick rigid film, with an oil resisting coating on them.

    • Ultra Fine (Anti-Fingerprint) is a matte, semi-clear, high quality, thick rigid film, that subdues fingerprint oil smudges. (Reduces display clarity and brightness)
    • Ultra Optics is a micro-textured, mostly clear, optically enhanced, high quality, thick rigid film, that mostly subdues fingerprint oil smudges. (Semi-reduces display clarity and brightness)

While never having used their Oleophobic protector, I've read mixed reports about these. I recommend reading up on the Oleophobic protectors a bit to temper expectations.

I've posted a bit about these around here, also quite a bit on the other Evo forums from the past. Look around the net for more sources though.

Sorry Novox, even the Oleophobic get smudgy very easily. :(
They just might not get as smudgy quite as fast, and clean up easier.
    Still a great product though.

For anyone out there wondering, Steinheil/SGP/Spigen have about the best quality stuff around in my opinion.
(Oleophobic ones used to cost extra making a tough decision tougher, having to decide if the upcharge is worth it. If they are the same price then oleophobic are probably the better value unless fingerprints don't bother you)

thanks for the info, Pyro. In my experience, the only other kind of anti-smudge screen protector tend to be textured, and even those do get smudgy; they are just harder to notice cause the screen is matte. But I hate how the matte texture reduces the sharpness of the screen, especially this 312ppi screen on the LTEvo.

I'm looking for easy to clean smudges. I tend to wipe down my screen a lot, and my current clear gloss protector (that came with my otterbox) is very hard to remove smudges by a simple wipe on my shirt. Much harder than with naked glass. I would hope that the oleophobic material makes wipedowns easier than my current protector or unprotected glass.

I was reading that the newer iPhones (3Gs and newer) came with an oleophobic coating on the glass that does wear off through use. How worthless is that??? Hoping that this screen protector's oleophobic properties are part of the chemical composition of the polymer and therefore permanent.

A big +1 for these. I put one on my EVO 3d and will get one if they offer it for my EVO 4G LTE.

Hi..I ve tried a lot of screen protectors on my original evo.galaxy s2 and now my Evo LTE. I had tried a zagg on my first evo and couldn't stand it. Too much orange peel not smooth when swiping the screen. Wasn't sure what I was going to put on my evo lte, went to best buy and my friend who works in the mobile division told me I needed to try the zagg hd protector. I said ok he put it on,after a day the few bubbles were gone and I have to tell you it is night and day compared to the original zagg protector. No orange peel when I swipe or touch the spring it feels almost like the glass of the phone. It is a really if not the best screen protector I have tried, plus the durability and protection is unbeatable.

True, even the matte and textured ones get oiled after a while. And yes they always reduce the optical clarity. It is a big trade off.

Yeah, the iphones did have a coated glass and it did wear through with use. The original Droid had coated glass too. Both would wear out after a long time for very heavy users, especially where the screen un-lock bar was. I've seen worn out glass where the keyboard keys displayed too. The most frequently used letters had the most wear. :D
Spigen's(SGP/Steineheil) Oleophobic protectors are specifically described as being surface coated on the product page, meaning it is not part of the composition. Hard to say how deep the coating bond goes into the surface. I've read around the net that it wears off over time.(1, 2, etc.)

While I appreciate your general info regarding the Ultra line of screen protectors, can you provide further info specifically on the oil resisting properties of the Oleophobic version?

We know that all things being equal these are the same protector as the Ultra Crystal, just with an oil resistant coating. Can you guys speak specifically to the amount of "oil resistance" they have? Are they any more "oil resistant" or just easier to clean? How easy do prints wipe off compared to Ultra Crystal? Does the coating wear off over time (depends on use, so what type of user are you)?
    Thanks in advance

I've never used the Ultra Crystal, so I can't compare the two.

I used to use Phantom Skinz which was by far the best protector around 2 years ago or so. I don't see this phone on their list however and I didn't use a protector on my old Evo for the last 12 months of it's life without any problems so I am torn if I am even going to bother this time around. If I do, I may wait for Phantom Skinz to come out with a protector.

Since 2 years ago, have any of the usual protectors gotten better? At the time, the Phantom Skinz had the least (ie. none) orange peel and it was very smooth. I imagine in 2 years other companies may have stepped up their game though.

    My two cents:

I'm a Zagg man. I used other screen protectors through the ages (I used to rock a Handspring) and they make me happy.

When used in conjunction with a case they have provided amazing protection. Plus, with the lifetime warranty whenever I get a wrinkle or scratch (nigh unto never) I take it to the Zagg store and get it replaced free.

I'm greatful for the info on the other protectors, though.

Hey, came across this while looking for screen protectors. I think I have decided to go the dry route this time around but compared to $24 for a Phantom Skinz full body protector, this seems like a steal. Figured I would let people know about it who may be looking for one. I'm not sure how good XtremeGUARD is but for $4 how can you go wrong?

Has anyone else purchase a Zagg HD screen protector?

I am very unhappy with mine. Their are many indentations, nicks, marks on the Zagg already and it's only been a week. None of them self healed. I thought this screen protector wasn't supposed to scratch, let alone just from a fingernail or being taken out of the holster. I can see the marks when the screen is turned off or if the screen is outside or good indoor lighting. Also the orange peel is still there and can easily be seen at an angle.

    Anyone have the same experience?

I purchased the Zagg HD and had it installed at Best Buy and their is a piece of dust under the protector so I am going to see if they could reinstall a new one for free. I don't know how this works but others said you have 30 days to get a new install if there are problems.

I am wondering whether to take it back to Best Buy or bring it back to the Zagg stand in my mall (that I just discovered was there).

I got the hd and it already has some damage... None of the scuffs healed in my case either... Pretty disappointed. Only thing is I don't have my receipt and there isn't a zagg stand anywhere near me (that I'm aware of) so let me know how it goes with you.. I definetly want to get mine replaced

So does anyone know what I can do to get my zagg replaced? Should I bring it back to bb? Will they honor zaggs warranty even though I don't have my receipt?

I'm gonna check these out... I honestly didn't know there were other brands I thought zagg was the way to go.... Apparently not lol... I'm about to just go to 5 below and get an el cheapo 5$ protector... Probably would hold up better than the zagg has.... One week and it looks like crap.. Indents in it everywhere and scratches
