Screen Protector?Tips

Get the Phantom Skinz. Mine were a very good fit. Plus they have much better coverage than the Clear Freak.

I've got the Clear Freak stuff, but it's going to sit in a drawer.

In looking at the back piece, it looks like a much worse fit than the Phantom Skinz. The Phantom Skinz are really cut perfectly, whereas the Clear Freak stuff looks like they didn't spend much time on measuring the exact specifications.

clearfreak is sending me a replacement one. They said the plotter probably just cut it long and they didn't catch it. Should be here in the next day or so.

I ordered the clearfreak and cannot recommend it.
    Here is my overall opinion:

The front fit fairly well, was a little big but I could have easily corrected it with a razor blade. The back was another story it did not seem to fit/contour very well at all to the phone and i took it off within a couple hours of having it on.

It also felt really thick on the screen and was not easy to slide your finger around on at all and made the screen look much more cloudy than I have ever seen on previous screen protectors I've used

I will say I would have been confident that it would have protected the screen but at a huge usability cost due to being unable to slide around as well.

Just my opinion, guess I will try phantomskinz:(

That's why I'm looking for the super thin film that I'm so used to. You can't tell it is even on the phone, it repels face grease way better than the glass used to, and it had a nice anti-glare coating. All that for $4 for my old phone, this one they don't have yet.

Me too. The ones that 2 layers of plastic on either side of the protector. peel one side, place it on, then peel the other. Idk, I may not even keep it due to the reboot issue.

The Phantom Skinz feel really thin and feel great on the screen. No orange peel, and the screen feels so natural. I was skeptical at first but now highly recommend it!

i had this issue too... the back of the phone was about 2 mm off (too long) so i was either going to hang over the camera quite a bit, or else it was going to look weird next to the speaker...

and the front - i installed it from the optical mouse up and it hung over the earpiece about 1 mm...

i e-mailed them about this... so we'll see. still waiting for someone to make a nice case for the phone.

Here's a tip, apply the back first, let it dry, then do the front / sides.

During application, remove the battery!! The AMOLED screen is sensitive to moisture so make sure it is not powered on when you do this. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right.

The back & front were fairly easy to apply (I've done a dozen Best Skin Ever installs so I knew how to apply). There will be some bubbles, even after your best effort to squeegee the bubbles / excess water away. Most bubbles will dry up within 24 hours. Mine has been 36 hours and I only have a couple small air pockets left which should go away in another couple of days.

The results are impressive if you take the time to focus and do it right. Use a large bowl, not a cup like the instructions say. I used a huge pasta bowl with water and a drop of soap. It works great. Wet your fingers to handle the skins.

The hardest parts were the side strips. They tend to stretch if you use too much force. Here's the trick I did: align the ends to mate with the other pieces flush first, and then apply steady force to paste on the rest of the strip. I did stretch a side piece so at first it overlapped with another piece, I removed it, mated the sides so they are flush, and then pressed the rest of the strip down. Because the plastic will want to stick to the phone, the excess plastic just naturally will compress and adhere to the phone.

If you're frustrated and stretch it, you'll be throwing a useful piece of trim away. Use the trick I figured out above.

Everything looks great. However, there are a couple of areas by top left and top right corner of the phone, where the curvature of the phone makes it almost impossible for the top piece (not screen) to adhere properly. I pressed my fingers on it for almost 5 minutes, and after drying, a very very small piece on each corner still pops out. The rest still stays on, so it's not a big deal.

But you need patience with some of the trim pieces. You get 2 skins with Phantom Skinz so you have a 2nd try, but I don't like waste so I was ultra careful with my application.

I'm not the best at applying skins but I'm very happy with mine.

Be patient, take the battery out, have a microfiber towel ready, and a lot of bright, well-lit space to work on. I also had on an LED headlamp to look at areas that needed more detail to make sure I got it right. Like I said, if it's worth doing it's worth doing right.

Oh, I let the phone dry 6-8 hours (overnight) before I replaced the battery and turned it on. Better safe than sorry!!

    Good luck & enjoy!!!

So after a few days with the clear protector it looks great and feels fine. I do notice is has the orange peel effect but I am ok with it as from a direct site it looks perfectly clear. I would be willing to try a phantom skin if I go with a full cover next time if need be. Also has anyone tried the Invisishield yet since it's been released? I am curious as to the feedback on it as well as BSE...

Phantom skinz has almost no orange peel. I love BSE but BSE does have orange peel. Like Phantom Skinz the best.

    SPCS,

I could not have done this better. If you ever are looking for a job, PM me and I'll be ready to retire. lol Actually, I am watching this forum as we want real feedback on our patterns and material. We draw all patterns from actual devices so we should be "dead on" with the specs. If anyone has any comments or questions, feel free to post or PM me. Thanks again SPCS!

LOL thanks PhantomSkinz guy, I call it like it is, and your product is one of the best, if not the best, skins I have tried.

It really is glassy smooth, and clear.

I used a drop of regular anti-bacterial soap in my water for the install, but I read your post about using baby wash or baby shampoo, so the next time I have to do an install, I'll try the baby wash or shampoo. My drop of soap though seems to have worked fine, but always open to better ideas. :)

If I were you I'd go and buy the Phantom Skinz.

The phantom skinz are thinner, and better cut. And you get a set of 2.

In looking at the Clear Freak, it's almost yellowish compared to the Phantom Skinz (on the paper it came with), much less coverage, and the way they cut the back pattern I have concerns it will not stick as well. It also feels thick and bulky, unlike the thinner more natural feel of the Phantom Skinz.

Get the Phantom Skinz and you'll see a night and day difference, especially before the 30% discount expires.

Got my Clearfreak screen protector today.

It has some kind of cut defect on the bottom, looks like someone cut with a dull xacto or something. When the phone is off, it looks weird, textured, and like it will distort the picture, but when the phone comes on everything is clear. The glue leaves no residue (so far?) and it sticks well. My only complaint is that while on the phone, the proximity sensor has trouble knowing when i'm not holding the phone up to my ear anymore.

I like it, but I can't 100% recommend it unless they send me another one that is properly cut/sized.

Get the Phantom Skinz is all I can say. Until product quality improves with the clear freak stuff I cannot recommend it.

I got my clearfreak yesterday. I am not 100% satisfied. Your right it has a textured look to it, and I've noticed that it has also affected the capacitive response of the screen - it's less responsive to my touches.
The material is more like a piece of flimsy clear vinyl. The cut is not very accurrate. The only thing I like about it is that it does not show streaks or greasy marks. The Boxwave crystal clear protector beats this thing hands down in all areas except streaks. I'm going to try Box-waves anti-glare next.

I can't believe Boxwave has already produced screen protectors for the Droid! Then again it has a larger market share than the Moment. Guess I'll have to wait a bit more.

my order didn't go through on phantomskinz, they were having web site difficulty

however, after reading those instructions I'm glad my order didn't process.

That's too bad, your loss. I am loving the feel of the phone. It is definitely worth the effort. Any skin you're going to apply, should be followed with the same instructions.

There's no magical skin that you can be lazy and expect great results with. The Phantom Skinz just happen to be the best of the skins that I've applied so far.

I 100% agree with you. Not very fond of my clearfreak screen protector. Couldn't quite get the back size to go on quite right either.

It has nothing to do with being lazy, I'm just not willing to risk all that for a mail order...if I mess up I'm either stuck or I have to deal with shipping. I remember dealing with the screen protector for my iphone, it was a pain in the ass and I rather do it at the store in case I have to get another one. I sincersly appreciate the advice though.

tried clear freak screens also. the back was a b*** * to put on and there's air bubbles on back and front. i followed the instructions exactly on their website. i remember using a brand of screen protector that was dual sided and didn't need any water to apply it. all you had to do was peel one side, line it up with the screen then take off the backing on front side. perfect fit with no air bubbles, clear as if it wasn't even there. i couldn't believe i even put it on correctly, but it was on. i can't remember the name of it. i bought it at best buy for a lg vue phone last year. i don't think they carry that brand anymore. i wish i could remember the brand. -_-
