SD card cluster size

Hi all. I formatted my sd card from my Hero and my phone started to lag terribly. I decided to use the card reader on my laptop and just as a test, I did a full format (not quick format) using 32k as the cluster size instead of the default 16k. Popped it in, fired it up and not only was there no more lag but my Hero seemed to be MUCH snapper. Even better than I first got it (when lag was very minimal). Is this my imagination? Can someone try and confirm this? To me it seems that all the places that had experienced some lag (keyboard, handcent sms, etc) all seem to be fixed!

I want to try this, but I have a couple of questions. What did you put for "File system"? And did you click "Restore device defaults"? And you left "quick format" unchecked, correct?

Did you do this with the included SD card, or a different one you bought seperately?

I first used one that I had bought(4GB) but later tried the included card also. After trying different cluster sizes and formats, I think it has something to do with going from FAT default (FAT16) to FAT32. I'm beginning to think that the format difference is having some effect and not the cluster size. I've been trying to see how much I can make is slow by loading up all the widgets and pushes that I can to see if there is some degrade in performance but I haven't noticed much difference. The only way I could make it sluggish again was to format the card from my Hero again. Maybe that's the only lesson to be learned from my experience. Format the card from your computer. I should mention that I did the 100% awake time fix also if that makes a difference. Hope this helps someone.

So you're saying to format it with:
    - FAT32 (not FAT 16)
    - 32k (not 16k or 64k)
    - and with 'quick format' unchecked
    correct?

If not, please let me know the correct options you used to format. Thanks

Correct. Except with the included 2GB card the max a. u. size it will let me select is 16k. I've tried a 4GB and 8GB and they both had the 32k option available.
