SD Card help please?!Support

Last Updated:

  1. Hello,

I recently got a Samsung galaxy note 2 on contract
I've bought a class 10 32GB Sandisk micro SD card

I've put my SD card into my phone but for some reason, It's not saving any of my photos etc to my SD card and goes into my phone?
For example, my Instagram, if i take a photo with that, it will get saved to the phone and not the SD card
same goes if i were to take a screenshot it would get saved to my phone and not the micro SD card

    I went to
    > My files
    > Settings
and i changed all the directories to my external micro SD card but it still gets saved to the phone?

I've also made the video and camera options to save them to the SD card which it made a folder called "DCIM" and saves them in there, any way possible that i can save them to a directory of my choice?
All my apps have been installed on my phone and not my SD card.

Please could you help out? This is my first android phone so noob friendly would be much appreciated

    Many thanks

Have you tried playing around with the settings of all the applications you are taking pictures with ?

For instance, with the stock camera, you have to go in and change the directory through the app and not the phone settings. Same goes for Instagram and any other photo sharing/taking applications.
  3. Yeah, i've put my camera and video camera to save them to my SD card.. that works fine, it made a new folder called "DCIM" and then puts them in there, is there a possible way i can change the directory?

Where can i change that setting on Instagram?

I can't seem to find the same option for "Instagram" even after personally downloading the app and fiddling with it.
  5. Do i have to install the apps to my SD card?
Would that then make it save to my SD card or would they still save to my phone?

If so how do i install them from my phone to SD card??

Maybe see if there is an option for redirecting apps in "Google Play Store" or in the "Downloads" app on the phone
  7. I looked on both and none of those have an option to set it to SD card..

It's really frustrating and annoying me, can someone please help!?!?!?!?

Is there a reason why you're taking pictures using the instagram camera? If you've set the stock camera to save pictures to your microSD, why not take pictures using the stock camera and when you're ready to share, just open up the picture and share via Instagram. Then, after your picture is shared via Instagram, you can even delete the cached picture that would automatically be saved on your internal storage. There's additional benefits to taking pictures this way because, you can take the higher resolution pictures, still have that copy, but share it via instagram as a "cropped" copy of the picture you've taken.

That's how I share using Instagram. As far as I know, the Instagram app doesn't have the capability of saving pictures to the microSD. Instagram was initially made for the iPhone (and later adapted for Android), so it's understandable why they wouldn't have programmed in the capability of having the pictures (through the app) save to the microSD.
  10. I understand what you mean, I use the stock camera right now and share afterwards anyway, i just find it more useful, but it's frustrating every time a take a picture or take a screen shot i have to manage my files and move them every time

It's mainly just Instagram and screen shots although there are other apps that save stuff to my phone and not my SD card too :(

I'm a little confused by what you're saying here. If you take the pic using the stock camera, and use the share function through the camera app, why would you need to save the Instagram pictures that get stored on the internal storage? Just delete all the pics in the Instagram folder (after sharing) because you should still have those pics from when you took them using the stock camera.
  12. I usually edit the photos before putting them on my instagram with insta effects fx

And after you edit the photo, what you're saying is that insta effects fx doesn't allow you to save the edited version on the SD card?
  14. Nope, all the apps i have same stuff to my phone and not my sd card

I see. So, really, your problem isn't the SD card, it's the apps. The title of your thread is misleading.
  16. I wouldn't say so,
anyway, is it possible to put apps on the SD card?
    wouldn't that solve it?

I'm new to android, step by step instructions will be much appreciated

Your thread title is "SD Card help please?!"...but really, there's nothing you can do when the developers have set up the app not to be able to save to the SD. There's nothing really wrong with the SD, it's the individual apps that you're using.

After Android 4.0 (ICS) and up, the ability to place apps on the SD card was discontinued. The only way to have a "work around" so to speak is to Root the phone and there are steps discussed on XDA of how to switch which storage is identified as internal vs. external, so in a manner of speaking...it's possible, but just needs some customization.

    Thanks for the thread!
    Ignorance is bliss?
Was not aware of this and only now starting to "get" the big attraction to rooting!

Scratching my head and need to read a bit more....!
  20. Thanks all for the comments,
I'll look around google and youtube on how to root
then i'll find a way to put them on

I don't understand why you have to do it every time.
You should have gigs of free memory available.
