Let me begin by saying that I will be purchasing an EPIC 4G on release day (whenever that may be) no matter when it is!!!

Now to my point, the lack of information and outright secrecy being employed by Sprint regarding the release of the EPIC 4G is downright moronic and piss-poor marketing. I know that some mindless idiots will say "oh see, see.... the fact that you are talking about the EPIC proves their strategy is working!" Well, I say BOLLOCKS!

This isn't creating hype or excitement, all this is doing is pissing people off and causing Sprint to lose more and more potential new customers to VZW and ATT. I mean, there are some powerhouse devices (Droid 2, BB Torch, iPhone 4) that are going to be readily available apparently before we will even know for sure when the EPIC will even be released! If Sprint wants/expects people to wait for an EPIC, then they need to tell us when it will actually be available.

Well, it's the only Galaxy S device that hasn't been released, like in the entire world! Does the slide-out keyboard delay production that much? I seriously hope not. We know that it cleared the FCC weeks ago. Other than the 4G and slide-out keyboard it is practically identical to the other Galaxy S phones from an internal hardware/software standpoint.

They know when the release date is. There have been no reported shortages with T-Mobile or ATT with their Galaxy S versions. Why the delay with Sprint?

It appears to me that Sprint has not been on top of things the past 2 months. The EVO launch was a complete cluster! I bought one on launch day and had issues. Had to wait 3 weeks to get a replacement due to lack of product. Then after only having my second phone for 5 days, it bricked. To this minute Sprint's website says they have no EVOs available. What a joke.

This is not because the EVO is so hot they can't keep it in stock. It's actually due to the fact that people at HTC and Sprint royally screwed the pooch.

Now, we have this debacle unfolding with the EPIC. It really breaks my heart because I have been with Sprint for exactly 10 years now. They just cannot do a successful product launch to save their lives!

    Heart-breaking.

Fair enough. I got mixed up in the heat of my rant. T-Mobile and ATT have not reported any shortages. The Fascinate has yet to be released from VZW. So, I stand corrected.

You get my point though! At least with Verizon I can understand them choosing to delay the Fascinate because they have the Droid X already on the market and have a huge release coming on the 12th with the Droid 2. What else does Sprint have in the pipelines? They are all-in with the EPIC. They need to start acting like it.

you're still treating the unsupported assumption that vz and sprint are choosing to wait as fact.

it seems pretty clear to me that the epic is simply far behind the development and testing curve. it just cleared fcc a few weeks ago after all- remember the galaxy s w/ att bands cleared the fcc in april!

It's also possible that Sprint is trying to release the Epic with froyo and maybe they are looking at all possible time frames when people can upgrade to make sure everyone will get a phone.

Is everyone forgetting that Samsung has had trouble with keeping up with the demand for AMOLED screens?

Perhaps it's affecting the initial production run of Epic 4g's. Sprint doesn't want another non-available debacle on their hand (Evo unavailability is really irking folks).

I am frustrated, but I will definitely wait it out as long as it takes. I would rather wait and get a "REAL" screen from Samsung than have them switch to some shit manufacturer just to keep up with demand (i.e. HTC EVO.) The EVOs with the newer screens look like garbage. Completely washed out with no depth. They crank up the saturation to make it appear that the screen has vibrant colors. Garbage.

Does anyone remember the kids game - sit in a circle - whisper to the kid next to you - and hear how differen what the last person says than the original message? That's what this reminds me of. A lot os speculation, and rumors - spread by websites quoting the same "reliable" source.

    What has Sprint said???? NOTHING!!!

SPRINT never said August 11. Nor have they (yet) said the 20th.

I'm frustrated by the wait - but I'm still waiting to hear something- FROM SPRINT!

Maybe they want the phone to be as close to bug free as they can possibly make it? Let Samsung get this phone right, if you cant wait there are other phones right now you can get who didn't wait and we'll see you right back on these forums complaining about it! I live in the Bay Area and I couldn't get a Evo if I wanted one so either way I'm stuck waiting so why not wait for what I want???

Sorry bro, but until there is an "Official Release Date," there is not an Official Release Date! That means an actual date that Sprint store employees know about. I don't care what hacks on internet forums guess the date is going to be. What I care about is when the place I am going to buy the device knows that they are going to be selling me that device.

    Based on history:

    EVO:
    Announced:.....03/23/2010
    FCC:..............05/07/2010
    Pre Order:.......05/13/2010
    Release:.........06/04/2010

    Epic:
    Announced:.....06/28/2010
    FCC:..............07/20/2010
    Pre Order:.......???
    Release:.........???

Do your own math, but since we don't know if there is going to be a pre-order or not, and using the EVO as an example, I would say a likely date for the Epic release is (based on announced to release):

    09/09/2010

But figure the 10th for a Friday release like the EVO.

Just because you are impatient does not mean there is a conspiracy, ulterior motive, or secrecy.

Don't be ridiculous!! It is OBVIOUSLY a conspiracy. I think all the Epics were shipped to the moon, and we're all waiting for the FIRST TRUE lunar landing to recover the Epics by hand and bring them home.

This is a good date. Think about it. By that time it is the end of summer and Samsung did say all the galaxy s would have froyo by September. Also, for thos that can upgrade in October...this is about 3 weeks until Oct 1 and being within 30 days of an upgrade and being on premier...hopefully there shouldn't be any reason the system or Sprint shouldn't allow for it to happen.

I think its hilarious that whenever someone comes up with a date that sounds good, people come up with all these reasons why that MIGHT BE THE DATE.

But from a Marketing standpoint, I'd say there needs to be some hype built up. No, I don't mean about the phone, there's already plenty of that. I mean hype about the date it's coming out. You do that so that people can get their "what are you going to do on _____ (date of release) when you get YOUR epic 4g?" threads, etc.

Seems to me from a Marketing perspective you want that date announced soon. The only reason I can think of why it isn't yet announced is easy: they themselves have no idea yet when it will be released.

I figure it's something that they're trying to fix. Maybe it's not with the phone, maybe it's Sprint trying to fix distribution to avoid Evo shortages. Maybe it's the stores trying to fix how they display the phone, something as dumb as that, but SOMETHING is delaying it, and it's not Sprint or Samsung being secretive. In my most humble of opinions, of course.

no maker of anything waits to release until it's as close to bug free as possible- it'd never be released.

Yep and they have been advertising the crap out of it ever since. It's not always about the launch day sales. Sure selling out on the day of makes for nice headlines but I'm sure selling steadily every day after makes a company just as happy.

They need to tell us already! Enough is enough. People WILL switch carriers to pick-up a Droid 2 or Vibrant. If Sprint believes that people will just wait around forever, then they are sadly mistaken.

I've been with Sprint for 10 years now. That's longer than a lot of people on this forum have even had a drivers license! My nightmare experience with the EVO and now this indefinite wait for the EPIC is 'almost' enough to make me say screw it! The only reason I haven't ditched Sprint is because you simply cannot beat their monthly service plans. Especially, with the rumors that Verizon may be switching to capped data usage before the end of the year.

I don't care if the release date is the end of September or next week. I just want to know an exact date. Is that too much to freakin ask? They have to at least have a worst case scenario date. Just tell us that it will be available by that date!

How about 8/20/2011, I bet it will be available by then.

    Feel better now?

No, but thanks for the effort! At this point, I would be completely and pleasantly shocked if the EPIC is released by or on the 20th.

I know you are being sarcastic by saying 2011, but why can't they just say will be available by Sept. 10th,17th, etc? In a perfect world you would already know the release date and market it accordingly, but obviously Sprint is not operating in a perfect world. That's probably why they continue to shed subscribers and are number three behind AT&T which has the absolute worst service around.
