**For 4.3 go to post #8

Buried in the comments of an androidcentral.com article showing a code to unlock "Service Mode," which allows for the testing of many features on the S3, I found the trick to open the gates of Valhalla! This works on my 4.1.2

The secret is to first type *#22745927 to get to an 'enable/disable hidden menu' screen. Check enable and you're good to go.

The code *#0*# gives this testing screen:

Also, the code *#0011# works to access "Service Menu" and change the Wifi Power Save to off. It is thought that this might solve the Wifi disconnecting problem for some people.

Here's the link where I found it: How to uncover and use the hidden Service menu on the Galaxy S3 | Android Central

These codes work, too, though I've only tested a couple:

    • *#1234# (View SW Version PDA, CSC, MODEM)
    • #7465625782*# (Insert partial Network Lock Keycode)

This is excellent! (Unless I missed this code revealed already someplace else.) Some of these are also potentially dangerous! Please use with caution.

What version of the firmware are you on? Did the first step not activate the 'enable/disable hidden menu' screen after typing those numbers in your dialer?

Also, there could be other reasons you're wifi is dropping.

Yeah, this only works on 4.1.2 I guess. I wanted to use it myself just now and it didn't work so I'm gonna look around for a 4.3 version.

Its funny that this article mentions this trick and a few others as though they were something new for the S5. These work on my AT&T S3 with 4.3. I didn't have to type in the *#22745927. Apparently the default for AT&T is "enabled".
I've read somewhere that this will not work on Verizon phones. (Verizon locking something that AT&T didn't? Will they be needing Zambonis in Hell?)

Follow these steps, I have a Verizon I535 with Kitkat 4.4.2.

    1. Download TowelRoot.
    2. Enable Install from Unknown Sources
    3. Install TowelRoot, install regardless of the warnings.
    4. Install SuperSU from the Google store
    You now have root access.
    5. Install ES File Explorer from Google Play.
    6. In ES File Explorer goto Settings->Tools
    7. Turn on Root Explorer
    8. Turn on Show Hidden Files
    9. Use ES File Explorer to find /efs/Carrier/HiddenMenu
    10. Open this file as text using ES Note Editor.
    11. In the upper right corner of ES Note Editor select the menu icon then select EDIT
    12. Change the text OFF to ON
    13. Exit and save the file.
    14. Reboot and then try the codes. The service test screen is *#0*#.
