What carrier? A factory reset might fix that, but if you havent tried it already pull the battery out for a few mins, put it back, let it reboot, then see if things work.

Messaging>Settings>SMSC number - does it show anything in there or is it empty?

Search through my last thread. I'm having the same problem and it started last Friday out of no where. I tried taking the battery out with no luck. I also get the same thing when I call out and I haven't been receiving 80% of my incoming calls. I have Sprint and I know for sure its the S4 and not the carrier.

I believe this is caused by sprint working on their towers. I had someone from sprint tell me that. I guess they are working on the 4g stuff.

I used to have a problem on my old T-Bolt it would not sent picture messages. then i tried Go sms pro and it seemed to fix the problem. you could try to another texting app if it works then your know its the default texting app.

No, because me and my girlfriend have Sprint. I have the S4 and she has a iPhone 5. Her phone doesn't have the problems my phone is having.

There's a remedy for dropped calls and a few other data/communication glitches, including sms failures, that seems to be working well: if the user has access to the SIM card, shut down, pull the battery, SIM card and sd card, wait a full minute or more, then put it all back together and power up.

See how that works for you. ;)

If you have AdBlock installed, try removing it. I could not send MMS until I removed it.

Also, with Sprint, calling them and having them re-provisioning the phone will fix problems.

My family has 4 Samsung Galaxy S4s and we all have had this issue happen to us. We have only had the phones for about 2 weeks. I figured out when this happens turn the wifi off and everything works fine. I know someone that has the Galaxy 3 and it does the same thing and if she turns the wifi off on her phone things start working again.

I have this problem as well. I'm on Verizon. I thought it was because I live in a 3G Verizon Extended Network area, and the signal is poor here. I found out by chance though that when the phone appears to be sending an MMS, if I restarted the phone while it was sending, as soon as the phone came back online, the MMS was delivered quickly. It doesn't work for receiving an MMS. So I knew it wasn't my signal. It's my phone. I'm trying the trick above.

Happens to me too, I am using Verizon.

I called Verizon yesterday. They say they have reports and Samsung knows about it. It is a software issue. She said some people have it and some do not. She said there is an update coming but doesn't know what will be on it. Seems I have seen an update information page somewhere, and this was not one of the issues on the list.

Anyway, I have new phone on the way. Hopefully this one won't have it. I'm pretty happy with the phone overall.

I received my new phone today. I immediately took a couple pictures and texted them to friends. They went right away with no problems. It is few hours later now, all my apps have downloaded, and strangely once again I cannot send a text picture/MMS again.

    Hmmmmm...

I use Handcent SMS. Just on a guess I uninstalled it and tried to send a picture. It went. Also a couple pictures sent to me earlier have now downloaded. I'm still testing. I still have my old phone. Going to uninstall Handcent from it and see what happens. Ugh.. I love Handcent. I hope it is not the problem.

Anyone else here having the problem also use Handcent SMS? What about other SMS apps?

OK wrapping this up for me

I put the battery, SIM card, and sd card back in my old phone, uninstalled Handcent SMS, and got a friend to trade some MMS/text pictures with me. All of them sent and downloaded just fine.

I sent Handcent an email. I called Verizon to report it so maybe if other people had trouble and called, they might get some help, but of course I could not get past the initial person that always wants you to pull your battery.

I'm sending the new phone back because my original phone is all set up. Hopefully Handcent will fix this because I prefer to use it.

The advice above to remove adblock worked...I know this is an older post but this started happening to me out of no where on a diffrent phone...tried everything and realized the adblock symbol was showing up ... I removed it and it worked...iwas having trouble sending pics in stock as well and I don't know if the problem could have been adblock, but removed it and all is good so far.

Ok, I tried all the above and then saw GPS was off. Turned it on and all is well. I never turned it off, but whatever. What does GPS have to do with text?

I am having the same problem and I think it started when AT&T did an automatic software update on my Samsung Galaxy S4. I will try to send texts, and the little circle goes round and round forever. I restart the phone and they go through immediately. I have to restart at least twice per day now!

I had the same problem and in my case it was caused by a software update (I'm running CM11) deleting the SMSC number exactly as Szadzik suggests. Entering the correct SMSC number sorted out the problem immediately.

What is SMSC? I can't find it in my message settings. Thank you:)

SMSC = short message service centre. It's the number used by your service provider to send texts and it needs to be entered correctly on your phone or it won't be able to send texts but you can still receive them.

Here are the notes I made when I had this problem a month ago.

This appears to be caused by having the incorrect (or missing) SMSC number. To fix, follow the following steps:

    Install GO SMS Pro
Open it, go to Menu -> Settings -> MESSAGING: Send&Receive -> ADVANCED: SMS/MMS Advanced settings -> MESSAGE CENTER: Enable customised SMSC -> ON
    MESSAGE CENTER: Customised SMSC number
    Enter +447782000800, OK
    [Optional] Uninstall GO SMS Pro

Using SMS Pro was the only way I could find to enter the SMSC number. There has to be a cleaner way of doing this but it worked for me. The number I used is that of Three UK. You will need to find the correct number for your service provider if this is your problem.

Wow, thought this issue only existed with T-Mobile. Long story short, it's an Android 4.4.2 issue which no carrier has a fix for.
  24. ironass

    ironass Well-Known Member

This is not an Android 4.4.2 issue at all as it does not affect the vast majority of the 60 million Galaxy S4 users worldwide on the 250+ firmware releases for Android 4.4.2. Rather, it is to be found primarily in the heavily branded and modified firmwares of carriers such as Verizon and AT&T.
