Help Setting up GMail to use IMAP as opposed to POP3

I was curious - I noticed that the email app is having issues, but the GMail app (which is the only thing i have set up) is working fine. For me, at least.

My question is this - does the GMail app support only POP3? If so, would it be more to my benefit to use my GMail accounts through the standard email app, so I can use IMAP (as I already use this on both my laptop and my desktop, making it easier to see what is on my GMail accounts at any given moment, complete with filters to move mail around)....

The gmail app supports only gmail . Although through gmail you can have it pull from almost any other email provider.

Yes, but does the GMail app support POP versus IMAP?

My question is not for other accounts, but for IMAP support of a GMail account. Oh, and I have 3 GMail accounts....
