This is where you can share your screen shots of your customized desktop. It's always fun to share your creations and also see what others are doing. :)

Here's a screen shot of my home screen today: Many thanks to **Knurpsi** for her help and patience!

I will tell you in the next couple of posts how to do this. :)

If you don't already know how to take screen shots or have a program, there is a good app at The Market called: Screenshot. It's what I use.

This thead can be used to help other learn how to customize their Desktops to make it look the way :you want it to.

Hope everyone will get involved. This can be a lot of fun!!! Also, can keep us occupied while we are waiting for Froyo!!!

    How to do this:

    For Rooted Users
    1) Download Screenshot free app from the Market
    2) Open the application and give it permissions and set the options for using the camera with 'preferred delay' or by 'shaking the phone'. (See screen shot below.)
    3) Your screen shots will be automatically saved to your SD Card in a Folder called: Screenshots

    For Unrooted Users
    1) Install the Android SDK
    2) Enable USB debugging on your device
    3) Run DDMS from the tools directory
    4) Select your phone from the list
    5) Go in the menu, select Device, and then Screen capture.

Screenshot of the 'Screenshot' app options:

When posting Screen Shots of your desktop, it would be nice to say what apps you used and how you applied them. This will help others who are interested in doing the same. I'll start out with a brief tutorial to get you started.

    1. I suggest that you use LauncherPro for your launcher in doing this. Those who are using GO Launcher I'm sure it will work for you as well, I'm just not familiar with it so that's why I'm reccing LP. :)

    2. The next thing you want to do is find a wallpaper for your background that you like. There are many wallpapers available. The most important thing for the Ascend user is making sure the wallpaper is sized correctly. The perfect size is: 960 X 800 pixels. If you find a wallpaper you like you can resize it in your windows picture manager, or whatever picture editor you use, to this size. Here are some examples of wallpapers you might like. I will post some others in a different post because there is a limit to 30 images. LOL

Here are some really cool wallpapers you might like a lot! Just save them to your desktop and open with Windows Picture Manager of whatever Editor you have and make them 960 px X 800 px,

    3. After you get your wallpaper, you will want to make some changes to your settings that will enable you to add the widgets you want, text and icons, etc.

Go into preferences and change the number of home screens that you want to display.

Then change the number of rows and columns to display. This you may have to experiment with based on the widgets and text, etc that you choose to use. As an example, on mine in the first post here I have my rows and columns each set to 5. It makes my widgets on some of my screens a bit smaller than I would like but I am able to use the widgets I want and my home screen is the most important to me.

    4. Go to the market and select a weather widget. I am using Fancy Weather but if you do a search for 'weather widgets' you will find many of them. Just make sure they say they are compatible with LP or whatever launcher you are using.

    5. Next, find some icons you like. Do a search for Icons. There are many. You can narrow your search by searching for 'white icons' or 'black icons'. I have LauncherPro Icons . You have to have the Pro version of LP to use them I think.

    6. minimalistic text is a very good app for using text. just get it and try it out. LOL You are going to have to experiment with some of these things to find what suits you and your personality!

    7. I love Circle Launcher. It allows you to add a widget to your screen and then select either apps or contacts to show up when you touch the circle. You can also use an icon in place of the circle that you like. As an example, if you look at my screen shot in the first post you will see some purple hearts. That is my Circle Launcher. When I touch them it makes my family favorite contacts come up in a circle. I'll post a pic of this in a post further down.

    8. To add these widgets...long press anywhere on your screen and select 'widgets' then select the widget you want from the list that pops up. You can change affects in the widget settings, colors and styles etc. Again, you just have to experiment.

    9. You can remove your notification bar at the top and your dock at the bottom. What you can do is almost unlimited.

    More on this later.....

On the phone now. Trying to upload a ss right from the phone, but I am not seeing an attach option. Maybe there is not one for the mobile skin?

Also, with the ss app, is there a simpler way to capture one other than shaking it or pressing get screenshot v and backing out of that screen within those few seconds.

Sorry I am such a noob still, but I'm here and willing to learn!

The wallpapers here have been removed and will be added to a new site. It made this one too slow loading and too wide.

It will be easier to have them here in the forum somewhere else and linked to here. :)

I still can't figure out to upload out straight from my phone

You have to download the pics to your computer by connecting with your SD card and then going into the contents and opening up the Screenshots folder and saving the pics you want to your computer. Then put them whereever you store your pics on the web (photobucket, etc) and download them to this site from there.

Im rockin ADW.Launcher, Evangelion Clock Widget, Circle Battery Widget, and Minimalistic Text on my main homepage.
    Keep things simple.

This is my 2nd and last homescreen (yeah I only use 2, deal with it)
I changed the icon grid to 5x5 and put this Colorize Messenger Widget.
Then the SetCPU, Miren Browser, CacheCleaner Legacy, Vignette, and MySettings icons fill it up.

    Now wheres that Froyo? xD

That is awesome looking! I know what you mean about being happy with just two screens. The more I customize the more I wonder why I need more than 2 or 3.

I love the simplicity of your main screen! Is that a weather widget on the lower right? that your dock on the last one?

I like those icons. What's the windmill looking one for?
  11. JJ_

    JJ_ Active Member

The widget on the lower right is Minimalistic Text. Its like a weather/date/time widget that I personally think looks way classier than anything else. xD

As for docks, I disabled docks. LOL. Those are just icons.

The windmill is actually the icon for Miren Browser, which I totally recommend over Opera or Dolphin.

    Jazziette Well-Known Member

Yeah...I love minimalistic text. I didn't THINK you had docks there but then again I thought maybe you had done something I didn't know about. LOL

What is the SetCpu thing at far left? Is that a widget or did you create a custom Icon for it? Or do you just use menu for that?

Also, what do you use to navigate to your app drawer? I don't see anything for that.

One other got rid of your notification bar I see. How is that working out for you?
  13. JJ_

    JJ_ Active Member

The SetCPU is a widget. I found it in my widgets thingy so I was like whatever, Ill use it. xD

As for my app drawer and notification bar, I enabled swipe gestures to open/close them. Swipe up for the app drawer, and swipe down for notifications.
I think it looks better and it makes the home look more clean and less cluttered. My phone gets claustrophobic. LOL xD
    I like it

Swipe gestures? I love it! I'm going to try it and see how I like it. The notification bar is annoying. LOL

guess I'll have to put the battery thingy on my screen. :p

If youre using ADW.Launcher, you go into the ADWSettings, then you go to UI Settings and then Main Dock Style and then click None.

I wouldnt know about Launcher Pro though, if thats what youre using, sorry.

    How to Hide the Dock:

I got this in the mail this morning from my new friend **Knurpsi**. I really appreciate all the help this nice person has given me and want to share it here with everyone who wants to customize the look of their desktop. It's a wonderful tutorial:

This is what they sent me...from **Knurpsi**:

If you want to hide the bottom dock, when using Launcher Pro, all you have to do is:

Go to the preferences, there you click "Appearance Settings"

Then you click the dropdown field in "Dock background" and choose "None"

You might notice that the bottom icons you once put on the bottom dock are still there. To get rid of them, simply long press on one and in the following popup you choose "change shortcut"

then another popup opens and there you simply choose "blank"

And tadaaa! The icon in the dockbar vanished. :D

I did it with all icons in my bottom dock bar except for the app drawer icon (the flower on my screen).

To get rid of the notification bar on the top screen, you just have to click "Hide notification bar" in the Appearance Settings of Launcher Pro

Hope that helps! I made screenshots, cause I personally find it somewhat easier, when I try new things, to actually SEE what and where changes were made. So I hope it helps you too. :)

Thank you **Knurpsi** for all your wonderful help!! :)

Why is your notification bar gray?
  24. Jazziette

    Jazziette Well-Known Member

That isn't my notification bar. That is Knurpsi's. He normally has it hidden but as you know when viewing menu items, etc., it shows up. I guess it's in his settings. He has a different phone than we use. I think it's a Fascinate.
