Should I get an Evo now or wait?

I'd just just get it now. If you were like me you'd just drive yourself crazy without it. I mean, you're already on an Evo board.

Robo...maybe you can settle my confusion on the Sprint guarantee. I absolutely love my EVO, however I have bad light leakage from the capacitive buttons and want to replace it. I bought mine at Best Buy and the kicker is that there are none in stock in the entire area. My 30 days is coming up, and I don't want to lose the leverage of being able to cancel the contract if Sprint tries to give me a refurbished or repaired phone, which is not acceptable right at the start of my contract. I'm perfectly happy canceling and falling back to my Verizon cell until supplies come in...but I thought there was a 90 day(?) waiting period before you can order a new phone at the new customer discount rate. Is this not the case?

If you are on contract with Sprint I'd say get it now. Like for myself i still on contract with ATT so i will most likely cancel before 30 days and wait till things get better sorted out.
I really like the evo but have issues with the call quality and volume.

  4. I mean it is what it iss.. jus look at the forums. People all over the world is having lots of minor issues with there evo. I know every new phone does but evo has stupid issues that shouldn't even be a issue to start with. I know u love ur evo and all but ur a little to defensive when it comes to criticisism. I know u have minor stupid issues with urs, as everybody else

Can tell you my experience, about the best anyone can do I guess...

My pre-ordered EVO had some light leakage and an uneven glass at the bottom. BB didn't know when they would have them in stock so just returned it and went to my old phone.

A few days later at BB for another reason and wouldn't u know it, they were in stock. Looked carefully at it in the packaging and it looked perfect. Bought it.

It is perfect! absolutely. Did the upgrade the other day, no problems. This one has the epson screen and it looks very sharp. Deep blacks on this one. Just checked and I have 4 bars left and it's been on for 64 hours. Not using it a lot right now, but some phone calls, emails, txt msgs (just a few). I put it in airplane mode overnight.

I like the black because the white one will pretty much look like an oreo cookie... I would have preferred all white and might have waited for that, but definitely not the two tone.

Android is very intuitive imho. Windoze is not. I'm very happy with it.

    Good luck with your decision.

    Hi All,
I am going to be switching from my Blackberry 9700 to an EVO and am wondering if I should wait a month until the phones being sold have the screen glue / light leakage problem taken care of. Is it safe to assume that the longer I wait, the higher the chances are of getting a problem-free phone?

I'd love to go out and buy a phone today, but patience might be a better bet. Any input? I assume hardware version 0003 is still the latest?

Apologies that there is a similar post, this is supposed to be more for whether people think waiting for 0004 would be a good idea :)

Diffidently wait. I'm on my 3rd Evo and still light leakage. In fact, I would wait at least until the Epic 4G comes out so you can compare and see which you like more.

Wait. I am on my third Evo. I just got my brand new one from the Sprint store on Friday and it still has light leakage. My first 2 were Hardware version 2s, and this new one is my first Version 3. So I would wait. I imagine perhaps either a 4 or 5 would be best. But I would at least wait until the Epic 4G comes out so you can see which one you like more. I kind of wish I could have waited for the Epic after going through so many headaches with this phone, but I didn't even know about it when the Evo released.

Seem to be a hit or miss with the light leakage some since launch have no problems and even with version 3 some still show light leakage so either you take a chance or wait but these days waiting just mean something new is right around the corner.

I'm not interested in a Samsung phone or a slider, but I am concerned about getting a quality EVO. I'll probably wait - I just don't know how long it will take for a version 4 or 5 to come out with all of these problems eradicated!

  12. It could be next week or it could be six months from now or it could be never until they do a hardware build 4. Who is to say six months from now they just wont come out with the EVO-2 like Blackberry did with the Storm.

My friend got her EVO on launch day (pre-ordered from TheShack) and it is flawless. It is a 002 and I have inspected it several times and it is great, minus some very (VERY) minor light leak issues. I got my EVO (003) about two weeks ago and it is flawless, as well. Get your EVO now. Its an amazing phone and you can't beat Sprints prices.

Um, I think there's a warranty, so what's the point in waiting? Who says the next build will ship with zero defects?

My wife and I both swapped both of our phones at Radio Shack (both HW0002...activation 6/4/10 at RS) due to light leakage/screen separation issues....oh, and her's was eating batteries for snacks.

She received her HW0003 about a week and a half ago and it is PERFECT. I received my HW0003 today and it is PERFECT.

It seems that all of the phones coming into the stores recently are HW0003's and manufactured correctly. Of course, there could be a bad one in the bunch, but we're 2 for 2 on our swaps.

I say go for it! But IMMEDIATELY look at the screen on your new EVO, before activation even starts, to make sure the screen is recessed below the edges of the phone. You can test it by gently running your fingernail over the corners of the screen to the edge. If your fingernail catches slightly, then it's okay. If the screen is raised....REQUEST ANOTHER PHONE before they even begin activation.

Believe me, it's not worth it to have the light leakage and a screen that will just get worse over time.

But again, the odds favor that you'll get a HW0003 that is manufactured properly and in great working order.

Good Luck!! And welcome to Android!:D

You must understand, anytime ANYONE gets a defective phone (or defective electronic) they come to the forums and start bitching. There are THOUSANDS of phones that are perfectly fine and all these people want is more people with similar problems to ease their own personal anxiety or anger.

The only people who come to forums are geeky tech guys or people who have a problem - they immediately google their problem and find a similar thread on a forum. Then they start their own thread and boom, it looks lie there tons of bad write ups.

I have a newer 003 hardware version and there is no light leakage, good battery life, and very good overall quality.

    Go for it.

@Lierbertron: So by your logic, what is your post? More bitching and other issues coming out? I'm not sayin'.....I'm just sayin'.

Hate to burst your bubble, but there are also thousands of phones that are NOT FINE. The light leakage isn't just about cosmetics, it's about a faulty adhesive connecting the screen that will just get worse over time. It's about taking care of the problems NOW before getting a refurb or wasting an insurance claim. It's about paying a premium price for premium technology that is 100% satisfactory - nothing less.

Funny, I've learned those facts by reading forums and experiencing my own problems along the way. I probably wouldn't know to take action any other way, would I?

Aaaaaanyway, the fact remains that HW0003 seems great and without issues. So just disregard other's useless theories on the psychology of forum postings and ......

Well, at least I was bitching about the people I was bitching about rather than bitching about my phone... I think its a bit better :p

003, as this guy said, seems very good.

From what I have been reading here on the forums it doesn't really matter if you wait or not. It's hit or miss if you get a good one or a bad one. I got mine on launch day and was one of the lucky one's that got a perfect handset. I feel for those with all the problems. I would be really frustrated if I had to keep going back for another. Especially since they are so hard to get and you have to wait weeks for a replacement. For those of you in the Kansas City area Nebraska Furniture Mart has them in stock at $189. That's where I got mine and zero hassles or problems.
My only complaint so far is the lack of fun accessories but I guess I just have to impatiently wait!

Sold out across LA - I'll wait a few weeks and see how things pan out. Thanks for the input everyone (apart from the bickering)!

I'm still waiting to buy an EVO. I'm not interested in buying a project. If I have to turn of all of the things that are supposed to make the EVO special to make the battery last, then all I have left is a phone... and I already have a phone... a Treo 700P. Until Sprint/Android have fixed the problems, I'm not interested. I joined this forum to learn what the problems and fixes are from more knowledgeable people than I am.

I just received my Evo in the mail on Thursday. I have no issues whatsoever. it is awesome!!!! I love making Apple fanboys Evo envy. if u are considering on waiting for the other 4g phone the epic, just keep in mind that the same thing can happen as with all electronics with hardware and software issues. by the time those are worked out then sprint or some other carrier my have something better. so my thing was that i did my research, played with it at a sprint store and decided to take the plunge. you will not regret it with this phone. but the epic is coming and it has a physical keyboard.

make your choice now or you will always be waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting............

I would wait for the Epic. Don't get me wrong, I love my Evo but the Epic does have better hardware. Though Samsung is notorious for there lack off support for some of there product, I believe you won't regret waiting for the Epic.

Sent using my HTC Evo 4G.
