Should I just settle for my third Evo?

Should I exchange my Evo again and see if the fourth time's a charm?

So i'm in a weird spot. I just exchanged my Evo for the second time today and now have my third Evo. This is the first Evo that is a Hardware Ver 3, and I notice two things different about it physically. The battery back is a matte black instead of the other which is hard to describe but it's diffidently different. The other difference is something i can't explain. The last two Evos I had which were both Hard version 2 phones, I used the Seidio Innocase 2 on both and on both phones when you hold the phone with the case on you can feel the case move around the phone, but with the new one the case fit seems a lot more snug... idk how to explain that. Maybe it has something to do with the battery back.

The last phone I exchanged was because of the light leakage but this one has leakage too which disappoints me. I feel kind of like it doesn't matter what I do at this point, all the phones leak some amount of light and this phone works just fine but it just bothers me that a phone that I spent $300 on has a problem like this. I know some people have written that they have phones with no light leakage, but after 3 phones I feel like this can't be a isolated thing.

And also, i've been back to that store so many times it would just be weird going back for such a small problem but it's still annoying to me but i'm at the point where I think I should just accept the way it is. Honestly, I wouldn't suggest anyone buy a Evo for a while until they get this resolved.

Anyway, I just wanted to get some opinions on what I should do.

    Cheers.

I am on my second, the little light leakage I had is gone, and like you mentioned about the batter cover I am seeing that too. Mine also seems to have a different screen, not as brilliant/bright and poor picture quality. I havent been upset really, the build quality does seem better, and don't really have the energy to get upset about it. Slightly disappointed; but not at the same time. I really love this phone and feel I can be too pickie at times. I imagine that in a month I won't even care?

I am still on my first Evo. I have some minor light leakage but not enough to bother me. You are the one who paid for this phone so it is really up to you if you can live with this issue. The problem is that most Evos will probably have at least some light leakage at this point so you might want to wait and get a later build that addresses this issue.

Dude you're going to pay over $2000 for this phone over 2 years. IDK what anyone says you better love it. If you don't take it back.

I think you are being too picky. I know people say how you paind your money for this and you should expect perfection. But my question to you is if you took it back and bought a different phone would you be paying that much less for it? And would you be buying perfection? And also what trade offs will you have to make in exchanging for a non evo? Is a little light leakage that you can never see anyway because you have a case on it really taking away from your enjoyment of the phone this much? I think sometimes reading these message boards can cause people to search for issues that may not have been an issue before they read a bunch of people complaining about it.

Have you ever had a perfect phone? Have you ever had a phone that even with the light leakage is better and more enjoyable on a daily basis than your EVO? If so then switch. But exchanging your evo 18 times looking for the perfect one really wont change how you use it and how much you enjoy it.

It sounds like you have a case of phone anorexia. Just like a girl that looks at herself and only sees flaws and fat no matter how skinny she is you only see a flaw in your phone no matter how nice it is.

My Tmobile Dash was perfect, so were all of my Sony Ericson’s.
Heck my Dash still works like a charm, I charged it 3 days ago and it's only at 1/2 battery.

Its the smart phones I've always has issues with, but you take the good with the bad. And the bottom line is if you're not happy with the phone "perfect is in the eye of the beholder" then take it back.

My current EVO is on probation "I'm loving it right now", but that Samsung Edge looks sooo sweet. I might end up with two smart phones and just call Sprint every other week to switch between them.

It's almost time for me to sell all my old toys.

+1. Someone in another thread said that they didn't even know about any of the issues until they read this forum and that their G1 probably had tons of problems, but they didn't know about them because they weren't on the forum at that time.

Had I not read about the light leakage, I would have probably never discovered it. Now that I have a silicone case, I can't even see it anyway.

At this point, if you go back to the store, you should probably just return it. You obviously are going to find a problem with every phone and quality can vary from phone to phone, so you might end up with a different problem now. If you have 4 Evo's and are still not happy, there is a common denominator here (hint, it's you.).

If you're already on your 4th. I doubt it will ever be perfect for you. Get a nice case to cover the light leakage. With the case you wouldn't even notice the battery case either.

No point exchanging it as it doesn't seem like you will ever be happy with any phone, ever LOL

I myself am struggling with whether or not to bring back my phone. I have a Version 2 with the usual light leakage but it has gone form only noticeable in a dark room to being able to see it in a well light room. Also the light leakage has spread to the bottom left side now and the glass seems even with the bezel whereas before it was slightly below.

I am worried about bringing it back and having the same issues or the whole screen (Nova vs. Epson) debate which I still cannot figure out which screen is the best to have.

I love it!!! I think we have a new term....PHONOREXIA.... and there are definitely some phonorexics on this board!!!

And I do not buy into Robomonkey's financial reasoning of factoring in the service with the cost of the phone. Based on that, the cost of the phone is about 10% of that figure. And most people are going to have cellphone service anyway so that large number is very misleading and seems to be an underlying factor in his case of phonorexia(just jackin' with ya Robo)!!!

I say return the Evo, get another phone and don't come back to this forum. Any time you say anything slightly anti-Evo here the fanboys start their circle-jerk. But that's understandable, with the release of the iPhone 4 they have to step up their game and out-smug the Apple fanboys, so don't take it personally.

I got an Evo when it first came out and wasn't happy with HTC's quality or with Sprint service, so I returned it and got a Droid. The Droid isn't THAT outdated, and is a much better quality phone that what HTC makes. It should hold me over for a year.

Good luck with your Android adventures.

Its all good. I think I am a little Phonorexic "You better grab that web address" :) about the EVO. I think it's because I had been waiting on this form factor for soooo long and now it's here.

I tried going back to a simple phone "Tmobile Dash" and it was like I was unplugged from everything. Yea I could text and get push emails, but it wasn't the same and the phone plan was only $25 every two months.

I do think you have to be happy with the phone and if the OP isn't happy or is on the fence then taking it back is the best option for now.

Not true. I'm an EVO fanboy and I've had 4 of them and I'll tell you point blank that two of them were bad phones. I have never ever liked the Droid I think that was just marketing success. That keyboard was just lame to me, but all of that is my personal oppinion and everyone is intitled to their own.

    On that note I

If your're struggling to determine which screen is better to have than it shouldn't be a factor in you getting a replacement phone for your V2 light leakage phone. Because you can't tell what screen is better.

Dude, I cant even explain how much I agree with you. I am in your EXACT same position. I have my 3rd EVO, and it is the second one with the 003 version. I too have light leakage, and the screen grounding is also and issue. I will definitely be exchanging mine. Nobody can argue with a defect that was obviously not the design intent.

PS, I have that Seidio case too, my phone feels loose in is as well, further, its scratching my phone at the corners :(.

I could argue that the Droid is like an older Mercedes, where as the Evo is a brand new Ford truck. Which one would you rather drive?

Furthermore, it's only going to be a few months before the Evo is outdated, and unlike the Droid it's not gona be able to fall back on it's build quality.

And lastly, when my Droid's one year contract runs out, I'll be in the market for a newer and better phone, where as most people who brought the Evo will still have another year to go with their phones.
